MDE delivers comprehensive contract solutions across the Oil & Gas, wind, and marine sectors. In onshore renewables, there has typically been some hesitancy, but recently it all changed.
Its great to see this shifting and principle contractors and project owners trusting us with staffing their project teams. Right now we have teams working across 8 major UK BESS & Solar projects, with 4 more coming online across October and November and a healthy pipeline for Q1 next year.
At MDE, we believe in transparency and value. While some consultancies charge excessive fees for the same deliverables, (because they then come to us), we utilise experienced LTD, CIS, and PAYE contractors to deliver these solutions. Why pay consultancy rates (often between 20-60% higher) when you can go direct to a trusted agency with a proven track record in complex project delivery? Reduce the layers, simple...

ISBL & OSBL:-
In simple definition of battery limit it defined boundary between two areas of responsibility. The boundary between the two different pant. It is generally called battery limit also known as :
1. Inside battery limit (ISBL) : refers to the area where the plant or the process plant and equipment are located.
2. Outside battery limit(OSBL) :refers to the area which is outside the plant boundary limit. OSBL is away from the equipment and the process plant.
Oil & Gas refinery or petrochemical complex consists of several individual plants and its units, each plant it’s own role to play, for instance it has process plant units, Utility plant units, power generation units, it may have more plants. The question is how it will be design, construct and operated at once? you will find the answer in below written context.
How battery limit helps to design, construct, operation, maintenance, and safety of the Plants?
As you may know that, the technology licence to design these types of plant are come from different companies. So, in order to simplify the design work, whole plot to be divided into several areas(units),. These plants are connected with OSBL pipe-racks, trench, and roads.
Design:
It allow to do independently detail design engineering work with in ISBL / OSBL area.
It allow to divide roles and responsibilities between the battery limit for contractors.
Operation:
It allow to operation team to give responsibility to its operator for specific area to issue work permits, keep eyes on specific safety isolation point.
Maintenance:
It allow to maintenance team to isolate the unit or lines from at battery limit to perform the maintenance work.
Safety:
In cases there is an emergency in a plant, hazardous line and utility supplies can be cut or isolated from battery limit to stop spread of more damage to the rest of plant.
ENGINEERING AND DETAILED DESIGN
Engineering Design and Projects must start with an initial design concept; this concept is generally triggered as part of an approved project charter, with FEED initiated to start the defining phases of the engineering requirements, specifications and standards to be used. Following on from FEED the detailed engineering and drafting requirements are progressed to clearly define the design and its capability to meet the basis of design for the project.
Our integrated engineering approach

THE OIL & GAS ENGINEERING GUIDE
by Hervé Baron is a such a good Read for any one in the oil and gas industry.
As a Document controller this book actually summaries the whole project phase.
The execution of a turn-key Project for an industrial facility consists of three
main activities: Engineering, Procurement and Construction, which are followed by Commissioning and Start-up.
Engineering procurement
Engineering designs the facilities, produces the list, specifications and data sheets of all equipment and materials, and issues all drawings required to erect them at the construction site.
Procurement purchases all equipment and materials based on the lists and
specifications prepared by Engineering.
Finally, Construction installs all equipment and materials purchased by
Procurement as per the erection drawings produced by Engineering.
Engineering design is the first, and most critical part, of the execution of a
Project. It is indeed engineering that writes the music that will then be played by all project functions:
Procurement procures equipment/material as specified by
Engineering,
.
Engineering is the task of translating a set of functional requirements into a
full set of drawings and specifications depicting every detail of a facility.
Engineering involves a variety of specialities, which include Process, Safety,
Civil, Electrical, Instrumentation & Control to name a few, and a large number of tasks, from high level conceptual ones to the production of very detailed fabrication and installation drawings
