In the article written by Mark Gregory summarize the situation of 3G Shutdown in Australia with the operators: - TPG Telecom (Vodafone) commenced a progressive 3G network closure from 15 December 2023. - Telstra will follow with a gradual shutdown of its 3G network commencing 30 June 2024. - Optus commences its gradual shutdown on September 2024 Mobile networks are shutting down 3G, impacting devices that only support 3G like phones, tablets, and IoT devices. Older 4G devices using 3G voice may also be affected. Chapter 853 in the ongoing saga of how pretty much any device or component can be used as a surveillance tool. Very interesting research - for the moment this is probably something that will be used in specialized operations against very high value targets, but these types of things tend to develop into more "mass market" capabilities over time.
