Dear software engineers, don’t feel guilty about hitting pause & taking breaks sometimes. Your mind, body, and craft will thank you for it. All the daily grind: - maintaining the codebase - shipping releases - solving problems - daily sprints It can get intense. And you can burn out. It can hit you hard if you’re not careful. So every now and then: - take a long walk - read a book (a real one) - close those 100 browser tabs (I solemnly promise to do that after this post :D) - turn off your laptop for a while - spend time with your loved ones They will be there when you get back, I promise. And you'll return refreshed and ready to build amazing things again. In the last 9 years, I’ve realized that taking time to care for ourselves is the true method for high performance. Recharge yourself regularly to stay at your best. Your mind is your biggest asset. Treat it as such. – P.S. What are you doing this week to unwind?

As it's the end of my first week with 7Factor Software, I just wanted to give a brief update on how it's been and some initial takeaways. General thoughts: -Everyone at the company has been so kind, welcoming, and encouraging. Honestly couldn't have asked for a better environment for real professional growth. -My second PR was just merged this afternoon, which officially closes out my first ticket! It's super exciting watching my work merged into a real live product. Technical thoughts: -I've always recognized the importance of testing in a production environment, but the sheer amount of mocking going on has been eye-opening! -I have a great appreciation for the level of abstraction that exists to make the dev experience more enjoyable. Digging into those levels when debugging or understanding how something is implemented has definitely given me a lot of insight into thinking at that level of abstraction. I'm really enjoying myself and looking forward to working more with everyone! Be back next week!
