Get answers to your clean energy questions with #QuestionoftheWeek: What strategies can we implement to cultivate a diverse and skilled talent pipeline for the clean energy industry? The clean energy industry offers significant job creation and carbon reduction prospects nationwide. Already, nearly 2.2 million Americans are employed by the energy efficiency sector and over 255,000 people are employed in the solar energy industry. As these industries grow to achieve America’s carbon reduction goals, we must also work to build a more inclusive and highly-trained workforce for a just transition to a low-carbon economy. The Interstate Renewable Energy Council and the National Council for Workforce Education lead the National Clean Energy Workforce Alliance, a forum uniting more than 500 stakeholders across the U.S., focused on increasing investment in workforce development and greater coordination among local, regional, and national entities to support the growth of high-quality job opportunities in the clean energy industries, with a focus on the inclusion of diverse and underrepresented populations. The Alliance is collectively identifying and sharing resources and information, with a focus on concrete solutions to shared workforce challenges. Great source of information about energy perspectives for 2024 - 2050, probably one of the best publicly available, by McKinsey & Company. Here are my 10 key takeaways regarding #EnergyTransition: 1. Current progress toward low carbon emissions is primarily due to capturing "low-hanging fruit." 2. Emissions are not declining as quickly as private-sector commitments suggest. 3. We must scale up new economically effective technologies faster, and it will be complex to achieve 2050 emission goals and the 1.5ºC ambitions. 4. Global energy demand is projected to grow by up to 18% by 2050, reaching 10 billion people. 5. Low-carbon energy sources (solar & wind) are expected to grow 4x, reducing carbon emissions by 25%. 6. Nuclear energy is still perceived as a "transition" technology, but faces scaling and investment constraints. 7. Fossil fuel prices do not include all relevant and comprehensive costs. 8. Scaling up clean energy technologies could unlock opportunities for oil and coal utilization as sources of construction materials, chemicals, polymers, advanced materials (like graphene), and hydrogen. This is a great opportunity for companies like #Orlen. 9. The growth in global energy demand will be driven by India, the Middle East, and ASEAN countries, presenting a significant opportunity to implement clean energy technologies from the ground up. 10. Key bottlenecks for faster energy transitions include technology affordability, reliability and security, energy storage and grid infrastructure, shortages of metals and minerals, skilled workforce availability, capital constraints, geopolitics, and government regulations. Surprising: By 2050, AI, cloud storage, data centers, and IoT are projected to consume 10% of global energy! #EnergyTransformation #Orlen #McKinsey&Company #Transformation #DigitalTransformation

New research, backed by more than 120 major business leaders, has found that actions that can be delivered today could help slash energy usage by one-third globally across all sectors, delivering annual savings of at least $2trn. The research found that “practical actions” across buildings, industry and transport could deliver a 31% reduction in energy, shared across all sectors. This, the research states, could be delivered in the short term and is equivalent to avoiding the construction of 3,000 extra power stations. The “potential of this demand-side action is extraordinary”, the report states. Savings could be driven by the integration of artificial intelligence to optimize factory line design, energy efficiency, value chain collaboration, industrial clustering to share clean energy initiatives, retrofitting buildings and electrification of transport. If you are looking for ways to slash energy use, talk to our team of experts. Typically, businesses save 19% on energy bills when implementing our recommendations. What could your business save?
