The purpose of an earthing transformer is to provide a low-impedance path to ground for fault currents. To determine the size of an earthing transformer, you need to consider the following: 1. System voltage: The rated voltage of the earthing transformer should match the system voltage it is connected to. This ensures compatibility and proper operation. 2. Fault current level: The size of the earthing transformer should be selected based on the maximum fault current that can occur in the system. This is typically determined through fault studies and calculations. 3. Grounding system impedance: The earthing transformer should have a low enough impedance to provide a ground fault current path. The impedance is typically specified as a percentage or an ohmic value. The selection of the earthing transformer depends on the desired level of impedance for the grounding system. 4. Transformers rating: The earthing transformer should be rated to handle the expected fault currents without its thermal and insulation limits. 5. Cooling requirements: The size of the earthing transformer may also depend on the cooling method used, such as natural convection, forced air, or liquid cooling The cooling method should be selected based on the transformer's expected loading and operating conditions.
