Vehicular Content-Centric Networking (VCCN) allows vehicles and roadside units to build a library of frequently requested data locally, reducing the need to repeatedly contact the actual data source. This, in turn, reduces network congestion. It also allows you to request data by name and receive it based on location or name-wise dissemination. Need traffic updates? Looking for your GPS coordinates? Want real-time temperature data or weather updates? The data is then forwarded and retrieved either from the original source or from a nearby collection of information stored as part of the VCCN. NACOE Research: Real-Time Determination of Spare Capacity of Routes for Enhanced Management of Congested Road Networks Spare capacity is the difference between a road's design or operational capacity and the realised flow. Real-time determination of spare capacity of routes is essential for enhanced management of congested road networks. Knowing the spare capacity in real-time can lead to enhanced traffic management strategies, such as providing more accurate traveller information and optimising traffic signal control. NACOE completed a project to develop a prototype for real-time determination of spare capacity using available traffic data. The calibration of the prototype involved determining threshold capacity values for each traffic lane. These values were determined through visual inspection of volume-occupancy plots from departure, arrival detectors, and network performance indicator data. The capacity thresholds were then validated against CCTV footage to accurately reflect the ground truth. The modified prototype could continuously forecast saturated traffic conditions for a significant portion of the day at a few sites, even with data limitations. It also identified periods of saturated traffic conditions during peak hours with no identification during off-peak hours, as expected. This suggests that the prototype is reasonably accurate in establishing saturated traffic conditions in real-time. This research is a valuable contribution to developing real-time traffic management strategies that can help reduce congestion and improve traffic flow. In the realm of precision surveying and geospatial data collection, staying connected to a reliable CORS (Continuously Operating Reference Station) network via NTRIP (Networked Transport of RTCM via Internet Protocol) requires a stable internet service provider whenever the geospatial professional is using the GNSS rover in the field for data acquisition. However, achieving uninterrupted connectivity in remote locations with limited internet access can be a challenge. For users of GNSS receivers with NTRIP capabilities, the process of maintaining a stable connection often involves switching between different SIM cards to find a network provider with coverage in remote locations—an inconvenient and time-consuming task. But what if there was a way to eliminate the need for multiple SIM cards and ensure seamless connectivity no matter where you are?
