🇺🇦We keep supporting Ukraine! #warmuniform results: It was the initiative with the highest level of collaboration we've ever had. Its course and outcome depended on those who were willing to join. These were: ⠀ • materials • your support • trust • contributions ⠀ 246 English teachers joined the initiative. The possible contribution ranged from 500 hryvnias, and the folder with materials contained about 300 different author's developments provided by 30 educators from Ukraine and other countries. ⠀ The initiative aimed to support female defenders in collaboration with Zemlyachky Ukrainian Front, with great gratitude and a desire to participate in purchasing warm military uniforms for women. ⠀ The amount was calculated using the screenshots you sent me by email. Along with access to the materials, I sent each of you a small visual thank you with your name and surname specified. So, I can account for each person separately. ⠀ The fundraising lasted 2 weeks, and… ⠀ We closed the initiative with the result: ⠀ 🇺🇦161,000! ⠀ ELT world, you are amazing! This is an example of what we can achieve together - more than we sometimes imagine. ⠀ I thank everyone who participated in #warmuniform. ⠀ And most importantly! As part of the NAVI Speaker Series, we had an enlightening discussion on civil-military relations in fragile states with Dr. Stanislava Mladenova, a Global Fellow at Brown University’s Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Studies and the author of “When Rambo Meets the Red Cross: Civil-Military Engagement in Fragile States.” During the webinar, Dr. Mladenova discussed her book, providing valuable insights on topics such as the nature of fragile and irregular warfare spaces, the role of the military in humanitarian and development efforts, and the similarities between Special Operations Forces (SOFs) units and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) regarding their areas of operation, the resources they bring to the table, and their operational methods. Following her talk, we engaged in a detailed discussion to explore these topics further. At the end of the webinar, Dr. Mladenova answered questions from the participants. These are the concerns people have in Washington, DC these days. But perhaps the MOST pertinent and substantial challenges we face TODAY are those of the HUMAN CONDITION in fragile and irregular spaces, which will be home to 2/3rds of the world’s poor by 2030. It is also in THESE spaces where populations will INCREASINGLY suffer from the effects of climate change, extreme poverty, inequality, and insecurity. And it is also from THESE spaces where we will inevitably see the emergence of persistent state fragility, INSURGENCY, and irregular warfare. NGOs are increasing in size and complexity, and they are now concentrating in places where SOFs are. Please: Be the one. Like Colonel Richard Kemp who I had the absolute privilege of hearing this morning in an intimate gathering. He emphasised these key points among many: *Israel is the most capable and morally accountable army in the world. Civilian casualties are unfortunately unavoidable in conflict. The calculated ratio of civilian casualties to soldiers in Gaza is 0.8:1 No army has EVER gone out of its way to achieve or achieved such low rates. In Afghanistan it was 5 civilians to every soldier. In Iraq it was 3. HAMAS is the one to blame for casualties. They want them for world sympathy. *Richard was at the sites of the October 7 massacre directly after. He said he had been on the frontline of many major conflicts. But NEVER had he seen such butchery nor had he seen human beings take such glee in the calculated and despicable acts they performed and recorded. *There is NO humanitarian food crisis. Israel regularly, swiftly and securely delivers aid. However HAMAS intercepts and takes what it wants and sells the remainder to the population at exhorbitant prices. The UN is hopelessly disorganised with aid distribution as well. *In no other conflict have neighbouring countries NOT opened their borders to fleeing refugees. Nobody wants the Palestinians. Least of all Egypt and all of their so called Arab brethren. They see them as trouble and a burden to their countries. *The BBC is number 2 on the list of most antisemitic entities on the planet. Number 1 is Iran. Don’t rely on biased media for your information. Be the one to think for yourself. Be the one to educate yourself on the facts. Read. Reliable sources. Be the one to challenge current perceptions and go against the crowd. Richard is not Jewish. He says he doesn’t have that honour.

Here is my personal out of the box option/scenario to prevent further suffering. Since a ceasefire does not seem to happen. Open the Israeli border and let the forcibly displaced Gazan civilians evacuate to Israel and set up a temporary UN controlled refugee camp there. This instead of escalating the conflict by trying to push people into Egypt.... (to evacuate people to the North of Gaza is currently absolutely no realistic option, there is nothing left and it is much more difficult to supply humanitarian aid to a war zone). Israel is actually a very safe zone without any tunnels and/or terrorists to destroy.... It also would result in a clear guarantee that Gazans can return home in the end, after the area becomes inhabitable again, (NRC estimated in December that this will take 7-10 years)..... Gaza belongs to Canaan..... people will have to learn to coexist.... as it looks to me, there is either place for all or for none.... www.canaan.community & www.pax.ngo

Iranian President Pezeshkian’s first visit to Iraq since recently taking office is another indicator of Iranian influence in the country. As our recent report on the Iraqi curriculum suggests, this influence can already be found in textbooks used in Iraq's schools. For example, the pro-Iranian Al-Hashd al-Sha‘bi militia organization is praised for “liberating the homeland.” Our report highlights this and other issues, emphasizing the need for reform in Iraqi textbooks. A military force, often labeled as the most moral, has just bombed a United Nations school in the Nuseirat area of Gaza. This school served as a sanctuary for 7,000 displaced individuals and 1,200 families. Think about relocating your family to a school for safety, trusting in its status as a UN-protected space. It's a place you believe will shield you from harm. Now, picture the struggle to feed your children under siege, while assuring them that everything will be okay. This is your attempt to provide comfort in dire circumstances. Then imagine that this cruel army bombs the school, your last sanctuary, destroying the little hope you had left. What options remain?
