✅Rail Baltica's #geodesy experts recently had the chance to team up with the awesome global technical engineering company WSP for a #knowledgesharing session. 🚄🔎In early March, our experts, Andres Rüdja and Rait Leppik, had a great time at WSP in Sweden. They shared some insightful #reports, diving into the nitty-gritty of #geodetic #works and the details of Geodetic Networks in high-speed railway #construction. WSP came through with their wealth of expertise, giving us a solid overview of geodetic planning. The Swedish Road Administration (Trafikverket) also joined in, unveiling their geodetic Reference System and Networks in the ambitious "North Botnia Line" project. 🚄🔎Even though our projects may vary in size, both #RailBaltica and the #NorthBotniaLine encounter similar challenges. The contribution the Rijkswaterstaat have made in the Netherlands with the introduction of their Environmental Cost Indicator to create a level playing field where sustainable solutions are made viable by penalising embodied carbon and other recognised environmental impacts at the costing stage of the project. This should become a model Europewide for large infrastructure tenders as it is the only way to achieve our sustainability goals.

🔍 Tunnels play a key role in infrastructure—allowing transport through challenging terrains and under bustling cities. Surveyors are essential in tunnel construction as precise measurements ensure the safety and stability of the structure. Without their expertise, even a small mistake could cause the tunnel to shift by several centimeters per kilometer! 😲 🔦 Lately, Horisontalplan has been focusing more on tunnel projects! 🚇 More and more of our projects are focused on tunnel construction, and with each new project, our team of surveyors gains even more expertise in this specialized field. I’m thrilled to share that our paper, titled “Advances in Innovative Sustainable Transportation Geotechnics,” has just been published in Transportation Geotechnics! In this study, we explore diverse strategies for advancing sustainability in transportation geotechnics, encompassing innovative materials, ground improvement techniques, and use of geosynthetics. A case study is presented to illustrate the practical implementation of sustainable geosynthetics in the United States, offering practical insights into real-world implementations.
