Who say people with disabilities are limited to what they achieved? I love below post from World Service for the blind: 📢 Discover Goalball: A Unique Paralympic Sport for the Visually Impaired! Did you know that Goalball is one of only two Paralympic sports without an Olympic counterpart? Goalball was specially designed for the visually impaired and blind, originally created in 1946 for World War II veterans who lost their sight. 🤾♂️ In Goalball, two teams of three players each compete on a court the size of a volleyball court (18 meters long and 9 meters wide). The objective? Score by rolling a ball containing internal bells at speed along the floor toward the opponent's goal. The goal stretches across the entire width of the court, making defense a true challenge! 🔊 Silence is golden! Spectators must remain quiet during play so athletes can hear the ball. Players engage their entire bodies in this intense sport, alternating between attack and defense, with each game divided into two 12-minute halves. 🎯 All players wear eyeshades to ensure fair competition, making this a truly inclusive sport for those with visual impairments. Age verification and classification is here for #lacrosse. It's best practice in youth sports and USA Lacrosse is leading the way with a solution already included in annual membership. It's trusted, easy, fast, and puts the best interest of young athletes first. Parents should ask their coaches and program leaders, "What are you doing to ensure a fun and fair experience for the kids? Why wouldn't you age verify?" Special Olympics is not the Paralympics. I've been hearing a lot of 'You must be busy!' and 'Why aren't you in Paris?' (my thoughts exactly), though as the 2024 Paralympics wind down, I thought I'd make some distinctions between these games and the Special Olympics. Firstly, it's a common misconception that the two are the same. So common in fact, that it's the most popular blog post on the SO Australian site. Here are the facts: Special Olympics and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) are two separate organisations recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Both are international non-profit organisations focusing on sport for athletes with disabilities. Special Olympics and the Paralympics differ in three main areas: 1) the disability categories of the athletes they serve, 2) the criteria and philosophy under which athletes participate, and 3) the structure of the organisations. The Special Olympics global mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and Autism, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Special Olympics offers many non-sports opportunities for people with an intellectual disability like leadership, lifestyle and healthy living programs. These programs help athletes develop the confidence and skills to be active and respected members of the community. Because Special Olympics Australia (and globally) struggle with building this awareness, we need your help in breaking down inclusivity barriers. If your organisation or company would like to partner with us and advocate for persons with ID and Autism, let's chat. In the leadup to our National Games and 50 year anniversary, it's an exciting time to be a part of SOA. www.specialolympics.com.au

Sensory sport provides meaningful opportunities for people with complex disabilities to be active. By simplifying sports like football, tennis and snooker we are able to build accessible activities that can be tailored to meet individual needs and abilities. With sensory sports it is all about the equipment that is used. Equipment that is specially designed for the people with complex disabilites. The Sensory Tennis LUSUKit has been specifically designed with the focus on enjoyment, learning and developing fundamental movements through tennis. All pieces within the bag can be used individually or linked together providing lots of creative solutions to deliver sensory tennis/sport. Sensory Tennis is the new innovative programme designed in collaboration with Sense and the LTA, to create meaningful tennis activities for people with complex disabilities. Items such as the Tap Hands help with the sensory activity. They have raised swirls on them so you can put the hands together and feel and hear the sound of the raised bumps rubbing together, they have an elastic strap to secure the tap hand to your hand. A great tool to help teach hand/eye co-ordination whilst taking away the barrier of spacial awareness, catching nets, rattle balls, small air flow bell balls, large lightweight balls and many more. The Sensory Kit can also be used in other sports to help and enjoy sport. #sensoryplay #sensory #sensoryplayideas #disability #complexneeds #autismawareness #inclusionmatters #inclusivesports #primaryschool #schools #headteacher #teachers https://lnkd.in/ejNJy8T2

Tracing its roots back to 1965, when it was invented by a group of 3 dads who couldn’t find a shuttlecock to play badminton on a summer’s day, pickleball has had a slow-then-fast-then-really-fast rise in America. On that day in Washington nearly 60 years ago, the trio improvised with what they had: table tennis paddles, a plastic ball, and a badminton court—a combination that, once the net was lowered a few feet, proved an entertaining and accessible game for a variety of ages and abilities. From those humble beginnings, it took the sport decades to capture people’s interest, spreading organically across America, and eventually being played in every state by 1990. But, fast forward to the present day, and pickleball has taken the US by storm. According to the Sport & Fitness Industry Association, 8.9 million players played the sport in 2022, which is up more than 80% from the prior year, and officially makes pickleball the fastest-growing sport in America. Arguably the main driver of pickleball’s popularity boom is its low-commitment versatility. Thanks to its perforated ball—which slows the game down—and smaller court, pickleball demands less raw athletic ability than many other sports, giving it a broad appeal, with many kids and seniors picking up the game. In 2021, almost 73% of all record pickleball participants were ‘casual’ players who played fewer than 7x per year. In that same year, roughly 29% of pickleball players were aged 18–34 years old, while 21% were kids, ~20% were 35–54, and a whopping ~18% were 65+—an astonishingly even demographic split for an increasingly mainstream sport. Out of those who play the most frequently, the older demographic was the dominant force, accounting for nearly one-third of that “core” player group. Are you a fan of pickleball? Do you play often? I'd love to hear your thoughts! Source: Chartr #pickleball #pickleballislife #pickleballlifestyle #sport #racket #millions #people #society #trends #sports #sport

Return to Play and Stimuli Often times, we approach basketball return to play in a manner where practice is easier and games are harder. However, this is completely dependent on the goal and injury. For example, an athlete with a hamstring strain would be better suited to practice because high speed running is lower. Yet an athlete with an overload syndrome may be better suited for game like scenarios due to the work:rest ratios. 🔑 make rehab specific #athletictraining #athletictherapy #athleticperformance #athleticmedicine #strengthandconditioning #sportsperformance #sportsmedicine #sportschiropractic #basketball #basketballperformance #sportscience
