Australia can and should do more to advance food security in the Indo-Pacific region. With ubiquitous food price inflation and growing inequality of food access, governments are seeing food insecurity as a trigger for discontent and political instability. Climate change poses further threats to geopolitical stability and regional prosperity. But there are solutions. For decades, Australia has been a valued source of agricultural innovation. Productivity improvements have been realized in hostile physical environments characterized by variable and extreme weather conditions. Public investment through CSIRO, state agriculture departments, and universities – coupled with a vibrant agri-business sector – has contributed to Australia’s food export competitiveness. Internationally, Australia’s agricultural research community has established an envied reputation through the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). Established in 1982, ACIAR has played a unique role in establishing and financing research partnerships between Australian institutions and national agricultural research organizations, mainly in the Indo-Pacific region. For more details: https://lnkd.in/ghiZ-SZz My sincere thanks to Advance for providing me the opportunity to share these thoughts at its 2024 Annual Gala Dinner in Sydney (below). Together, we celebrated the achievements of Australians living and working overseas, international alumni of Aussie universities, and recent migrants to Australia who are innovating in their fields. The definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. If we want different, we have to do different. Rome wasn't built in a day but at least we've made first steps. @hsepsue https://lnkd.in/eJbKkZUt #PatientPartnership #OurHSE #BetterTogether

There is a call for papers for the upcoming "Politics and Power in a Changing World" Conference, with a lot of sub-themes centering around climate change and environmental degradation. As I'm not an environmental specialist I won't be participating in the conference. However, Myanmar Studies scholars interested in the country's environmental issues should definitely submit their abstract. Since the coup, Myanmar became hotter with the day temperature reaching up to nearly 50C during summer in some areas. Lands were polluted due to rare-earth materials extraction projects and forests were being depleted due to destructive timber extraction projects. These phenomena have significant impact on millions of people in Myanmar. Academics should investigate deeply into the phenomena so that possible solutions can be found and applied before it was too late.

Hello dear friends, valued colleagues, and Michael, Want to let you know that I will be giving a clinical budgets presentation at this year’s 16th Annual OCT (Outsourcing in Clinical Trials) West Coast conference that’s taking place on Feb 6-7 in Burlingame, CA. I will be discussing how “mop face” can improve your clinical trials budgeting and forecasting efforts. Many of you are already familiar with this cool conference. But in case you’re not, here are some compelling reasons you should consider attending: 1) In addition to inviting me, the conference also invited good speakers. 2) There may still be some complimentary passes costing $0.00 available (so contact the conference folks before this price doubles…). 3) The uber ride between SFO and the venue is super cheap. 4) The west coast versions of anything are way cooler than the east coast because the west coast has an ocean. 5) If you walk through the exhibition hall once or twice, you will have enough pens and breath mints to last 20 years. 6) There’s a groovy dim sum restaurant across the street where you can watch airplanes go up and down. 7) The OCT conference is much better than the SEP and NOV conferences. Looking forward to seeing some of you there and chatting when the planes aren’t flying by. https://lnkd.in/eugvX8-q
