At Ecolab, we recognize the urgent need to reduce waste and enhance our environmental impact. Sunday is International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste Reduction. Read below for reminders on preventing, donating, diverting, and reducing. Together, our actions can create a ripple effect in the food industry, reducing waste and driving sustainability! What Can You Do Today to Make an Impact? 1. Prevent Waste: -Optimize your ordering and ensure proper portioning and labeling. -Track and analyze food waste to identify adjustments, share the data for impact and make immediate changes. 2. Donate: - Follow proper temperature controls for donated food during all stages up to pick up and drop off.  - Cool, cold hold and potentially freeze cooked items properly to maintain safety during transport. Divert: - Recycle and compost wherever possible. - Update SOPs to keep areas clean and pest-free as these areas could be pest attractions. 4. Reduce: - Fix leaks and drips to conserve water. Even the smallest faucet drip or pipe leak can waste water. - Be mindful of the extras such as condiments and cutlery in takeout orders. Follow regulatory requirements.

📣 Announcement! New funding available 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 🍅 We've just launched the second round of the Eat It Up Fund. 💰 It funds creative solutions to tackle edible food waste. Why food waste? Because it's a huge issue that gets nothing like the attention it deserves: • 𝟮𝟱-𝟯𝟬% 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱, according to the latest figures from WRAP 🤯   • That stacks up to about 𝟴-𝟭𝟬% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗻-𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝘀 𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. 🏭   • In the UK, 10.7 million tonnes of food are wasted each year by UK households, food service, food manufacturers, retailers and farming. 🚮  Along with policy and concerted efforts from the existing stakeholders, we need ingenious new solutions. Food waste remains a huge challenge, but progress is happening! Since 2019, over 30% more retailed food has been rescued from landfills. Still, only 5% of food waste is donated annually, which means over 22 pounds of unsold food per person—or an astonishing 170 pounds for every food-insecure individual. At Eat Happy, we believe this food can—and should—make a difference. Our volunteers are already rescuing surplus food and delivering it to shelters and food banks, but we need businesses to join the fight, too! By partnering with us, local ethnic markets, grocery chains, distributors, and cafes can help transform unsold food into life-saving meals.
