Glad to be able to participate in Phoenix Contact's Power Reliability Offensive Asia training. Some of the key takeaways are: 1. Understanding Sources of Disturbance - Lighting Electromagnetic Pulse (LEMP) [Extremely high surge voltages which damages components via galvanic coupling with 10/350 current wave] - Switching Electromagnetic Pulse (SEMP) [Switching at high capacity machines, generally can be said to be an occurrence of extremely high current changes of 8/20 current wave] - Man Made Surges [1.2/50 current wave] 2. Lighting Protection Zones (LPZ) - LPZ Type 0 [External] - LPZ Type 1 [Any Point of Entry] - LPZ Type 2 [Sub Distribution Boards] - LPZ Type 3 [Equipment Level] 3. Main functioning components of Surge Protection Devices (SPDs) [Diodes] - Spark Gap [Slowest Response Time, Highest Discharge Capacity] - Gas Discharge Tube (GOT) [Slow Response Time, High Discharge Capacity] - Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) [Fast Response Time, Low Discharge Capacity] - Transient Voltage Suppression Diode (TUSD) [Fastest Response Time, Lowest Discharge Capacity] 4. Power Supplies Additional Functions i. Static Boost ii. Dynamic Boost iii. Selective Fuse Breaking 5. Compliances SEMI F47 vs IEC 61000-4-34 Thanks to Phoenix for also providing me with a small token for being the fastest and highest scorer during the training apart from this certificate.

Teaching and Feedback I've just finished delivering a Think EMC 1 day Electrical Safety course for my friends at Eurofins York. Some very good and sometimes challenging questions from the attendees which is always appreciated. At the end of any course I like to turn the conversation around and ask the attendees for specific examples of what they learned or found the most interesting. Sometimes what you hear may be a surprise. A section of the course that you thought wasn't well received turns out to be valuable to more than one person. I think getting quick feedback whilst the thoughts are fresh in the heads of the class is very valuable. When I run a Think EMC course I always try and get anonymous feedback that helps me improve the course by asking "what do you wish that we had spent more time on or covered in more detail" What do my fellow teachers and trainers do to get feedback? What specific questions to ask to get through attendees being polite and telling you what they really think? Thanks in advance for your thoughts :) Min Zhang Werner Grommes Charlie Blackham Martina Kreutz Kenneth Wyatt Keith Armstrong Matt Androsiuk CMSE® Andy Eadie Andy Degraeve Karen Burnham
