#Innovation and #enhancements comes from different directions. While boarding the Shatabdi Express from #Chennai to #Bengaluru today morning, I got a little curious about the evolution of the railways. Most of us view the rails as the improved way of the mass transport beyond roads. 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬 & 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞: The initial rails were built with grove on the earth surface where the wheels run. The initial idea was to transport materials locally from the mines to sea ports and in between the manufacturing ares. The transition happened on the rails from grove to wood to iron to steel. The initial power given to the wagons on the rails were either humans or by horses. Steam engine were being used around 1700 for raise water from mines and has a history of using it for the road transport. However the steam locomotive came into the usage for railways only by 1827 and later replaced by diesel around WW II and now electricity. 𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 & 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐬 Bessemer process is a process of conversion of Pig Iron into Steel by air based de carbonisation technique. This invention helped mass production of stronger and lighter steel. This innovation helped cost effective rail road manufacturing leading to the mass explanation of the railway system. Even though there are more passenger transport happening, 70% 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬. #knowledge #transport #logistics
