Hiring a PO to manage the backlog is like buying a gamer PC to browse the internet. But then why is it listed in each and every job description of a Product Owner? My guess is that we all find comfort in a well defined, ‘clean’, almost testable process. Then, you can go to an annual performance review and actually look at the backlog. Was it managed or no? Yes? No? Choose one. #softwaredevelopment #productmanagement

Product management is one of the most exciting and rewarding careers in the tech industry. It involves creating and delivering products that solve real problems for real users. It requires a combination of technical, business, and interpersonal skills, as well as a passion for innovation and customer satisfaction. Product managers are responsible for defining the vision, strategy, roadmap, and features of a product, as well as collaborating with engineers, designers, marketers, and other stakeholders to bring it to life. #productmanagement #techindustry

No two product managers are the same. And no two product management jobs will ever be the same. PMs work across just about every team in an organization: sales, customer service & support, marketing, finance, legal, executives, design, development, testing and more. It's so important to be comfortable with each of these areas of the business. But PMs don't work across every group on every product in every job. I've had product roles where I spent over 90% of my time with engineering teams. And I've had product roles where I was almost completely sales and marketing focused with very minor tech work. The stage of the product often dictates the focus of a product manager. If the product isn't working well and there are customer complaints, the biggest priority might be on tech. If sales are slow or growth is flat, it could be sales or marketing. Or there might be UX issues. New product launches require effort from legal and finance. Product looks different at every company. And it should. ****** I'm Austin, a product management leader, ex strategy consultant, former university educator and micro-PE investor. "Principal Product Manager" has become the fastest growing title across Product Management. Companies are increasingly seeking senior Individual Contributors with the ability to own product strategy and execute against it. The challenges? We're used to the Group PM path, here PMs become more strategic, with junior PMs, managing the execution. Being tactical and problem solving is a crucial part of the IC role, that Group level PMs seem to be lacking. This shift has also meant the "Associate Product Manager" title has declined, alongside opportunities for more junior PMs. I wonder if this shift will have longer term effects on the PM ecosystem, the products built, and the environment they are being built in. #productmanagement #producthiring #principalPM #recruiting

Product Manager | Product Owner | Product Strategy & Innovation | Agile Leader | Delivering Customer-Centric Solutions that Drive Adoption and Improve Sentiment
TL:DR; I'm a product person who got let go and I'm looking for work! Anyone hiring a newly available Product Owner/Product Manager? Like/comment/share this post with your network to help me find my next play. Yesterday I was informed that due to some department restructuring that I am being let go from my current role. I'm pretty shocked to say the least but after taking some time to soak it all in I have to press forward and find something new! What I'm looking for? Product positions! Opportunities to work on innovative products and platforms. I find the most joy in analyzing data and using it to solve customer pain points. Industries/Products I've worked on? Professional Services, Utilities, Higher Education, Recruitment. I've spent time on payments platforms, working with CRM systems, web product development, mobile application development to name a few. What do I do? Create and communicate product visions, strategies, road-maps. Analyze data to understand user trends, product adoption and develop strategies to improve KPIs. Optimize processes through continuous improvement efforts to save time, money, or improve customer satisfaction. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their business, requirements, and translate those into features and user stories for the scrum team. How do I do it? By developing in-depth knowledge of the product I'm working on. By conducting customer journey mapping and looking through the lens of the customer to sympathize with their experience. Understanding how the front end ties to back-end system data. Learning the API structure and how to translate business requirements into technical solutions. I build relationships with stakeholders and subject matter experts and collaborate with them to create intuitive products that delight users and achieve business objectives. Where am I? I'm metro-Detroit based and hoping that relocation won't be a part of my next play. Primarily looking for opportunities with remote/hybrid flexibility. How can you help? React to this post, comment on it, or share with your network. If your company has any product roles, send them my way! A referral is the best thing you can give someone who's looking for a new opportunity so I'll gladly take them. If you've made it this far and engaged with this post in any way or reached out with a lead, thank you very much!

As a Product Owner currently working on a long term vision for my product, I feel compelled to tell the product world that PO is not an entry-level role. We need to stop telling aspiring Product Managers to apply for PO roles as a segue to product management. Maybe it was true once upon a time. I know I used to believe it. Maybe back when companies could afford to hire a Product Owner, a Product Manager, and a Project Manager. For better or worse, most of us are currently performing all of these functions to some degree, regardless of our actual title. The old advice is no longer relevant. You should apply for a Product Owner role if: - You have prior experience as a Product Owner. - You have product manager/product owner experience without holding the official title & can prove it. - You already work for the company hiring a Product Owner and have excellent internal support and connections to recommend you. - The job description states that they are interested in applicants with different titles/experience or no previous Product Owner experience is required. Not trying to kill hope, just setting proper expectations. Read job posts thoroughly. Can you prove that you have done or can do at least 60% of that job? Apply smarter. #productowner #productmanagement
