The global IT outage is scary. What if this is the universe giving companies an opportunity to create new jobs? It's unsettling that a tiny piece of code from a friendly company nearly shut down our world.  I don't want to imagine what it would be like had this been a sinister act from those who enjoy causing harm. I hope the leaders of companies around the world are acknowledging their vulnerabilities today.  I hope these same leaders see the value of hiring more people to create and maintain a more robust and resilient IT infrastructure while enhancing their cybersecurity measures. Investing in having more employees that support the company has got to be less expensive than dealing with a ransom attack and potentially paying millions to get their data back, right?

Excellent points here Shukur I.. I couldn't agree more with your points. As someone who's been in the hiring game, I've seen firsthand how exec leadership decisions trickle down through HR, setting unrealistic hiring standards. Degrees and certifications often don't correlate with a person's true capabilities, delivery, or expertise. It's frustrating to see the industry still wrestling with these outdated practices. This "labor shortage" is largely self-inflicted. Talented individuals are overlooked because they don't have the right pieces of paper, despite their skills and potential. Instead of focusing on degrees and costly certifications, we should value passion, potential, and real-world skills. There's so much untapped talent out there ready to make a difference if given the opportunity. To all the aspiring cybersecurity professionals: Keep pushing forward. Your dedication and drive will pay off. The industry needs fresh perspectives and new talent now more than ever.
