We are grateful for this renewed engagement and the ongoing efforts of non-federal and subnational leaders in climate action.

🤔Not sure about the economics of climate action, the catastrophic costs of inaction, or the outdated/ill-informed conception of “balance” used to justify this rollback, #read below for just a few of many (!) fact-based explanations by leading experts (including Nobel-prize winning economists, retired international oil & gas industry executives, and the guy who literally coined the “triple bottom line” concept).
#spoileralert In short summary: these leading sources all agree that how we’ve been using triple bottom line (economic-social-environmental) cost-benefit models to determine “balance” DOES NOT WORK in our climate crisis context. Further, they underscore that the costs of inaction compound - meaning, the slower that decision-makers are to realize and act on this knowledge, the more we all pay. (Links below for fellow 🤓)

Switch It Up BC released this spicy 0:45 second video to raise the alarm about Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim’s attempted roll-back of the city's climate leadership. As I wrote in this recent APPA - Leadership in Educational Facilities Facilities Manager article, the time is now to decide how to decide: https://lnkd.in/gtbJUfiu. Climate researcher Katharine Hayhoe lays out the criticality of deliberate and knowing decison making for the future of our planet in the same vein: https://lnkd.in/eMeWuHSv. The more we embrace our agency in making sure we understand the decisions we are making the better we can make the outcomes, especially in regard to the planet, be for us and our progeny.
