The idea that sea floor nodule harvesting is some rushed endeavour that lacks scientific rigour or transparency is a huge fallacy. Here is the reality of the process being undertaken, already spanning over a decade. You will find few industries or firms amassing this level of data and subjecting it to detailed scrutiny by stakeholders and regulators. By all means challenge and enhance the data and help improve our collective knowledge. But stop pretending this work isn’t being done.
The Environmental Impact Statement for our NORI-D Project represents the culmination of over a decade of pioneering deep-sea research in collaboration with leading marine institutions and expert industry contractors. In this short video, learn more about the studies that underpin our EIS, how the process differs to projects on land, and how this wealth of data is being shared openly with the regulator and stakeholders.

This is a fascinating legacy issue that needs addressing. Montrose has the depth of technical understanding on the subsurface dynamics and has unique technology solutions to find these "lost" historic wells so that they can be properly mitigated.
Join Matrix’s Stew Hamilton, Ph.D., P.Geo. and Terence Trefiak, P.Eng. from Montrose Environmental Group for a look at the current state of environmental impacts from legacy petroleum wells in Ontario – including sites dating back to the 19th Century. They will also cover new technologies that can be used to identify these sites and prioritize remedial action based on the risks they pose to the environment and human health. In March, NOSCA invited OSRL to share how oil spill response techniques are transferable in combating microplastic marine pollution at NOSCA's Annual Seminar in Norway. Bjornar Fonn, Subsea Senior Response Specialist, presented at the seminar under the topic "Technology transfer: From traditional oil spill prevention to combat marine pollution". "During the X-Press Peal incident, we discovered that response techniques are transferable across many areas, such as using SCAT (Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Technique) and applications to collect data to create a common operating picture (COP)."
