What can baseball teach us about ourselves and the work we do? The Los Angeles Dodgers, known for their iconic white jerseys and Dodger Blue, are widely regarded as one of the best teams in baseball. But even the best can't afford to rest on their laurels. If your a major league pitcher in the starting rotation on an MLB team. Your instinctive enough to make adjustments if your throwing balls to get your arm angle back into the strike zone. If your not that, you won’t remain in the rotation and probably outta baseball. Same with VO. If your a working Pro for years your aware of how to make adjustments, how to communicate whether it’s via social media, email, by way of your posts, by your yearly working agenda. How you communicate, it’s a career path of many needed adjustments, moves, joining multiple rotations. Consistently working VO talent like a Pitcher in the starting rotation, understand the adjustments needed to remain in the booth, like MLB starting Pitchers who go to the mound. #vo

With the National Basketball Association (NBA) season ending, we are now crowning the Boston Celtics as the NBA champions. With two superstars as the cornerstone for success, they've built one of the best teams around them. This season has shown that it's not about individual star power, but rather the collective effort of the entire team. When players work together, share the ball, and support each other on both ends of the court, they create a synergy that individual talent alone can't achieve. #LinkedInSportsChallenge day 7: reflect on the most valuable lessons learned throughout sports career—Respect, Regroup, & Remember ☝️ Respect—it’s 1987 & my high school baseball team has surged from last to first. We are excited to be #1 in many CA polls. So excited in fact that when we play our next game many of us are going down the rabbit hole with the other team “ragging” each other’s dugout. Our head coach Scott Muckey silenced us immediately, saying to us “we don’t do that here.” We matured quickly & went on to be silent assassins by winning league for the first time in 20 years and making it to the quarterfinals in the CIF playoffs, the farthest the team had ever been. We learned to RESPECT the opponent, and especially the game, as it owes us nothing. —————— ✌️ Regroup—Tommy Lasorda said “no matter how good you are, you are gonna lose 1/3 of your games. No matter how bad you are you are going to win 1/3 of your games. It’s the other third that makes the difference.” If one is fortunate enough to make it at the next level of NCAA athletics, then you better get used to getting back up from the dirt, signing back in, and getting after it. There is just no other way to put it. One must REGROUP at the highest level of competition, whether winning or on a losing streak. If you are an individual competing then that makes it even harder. Team sports have a way of balancing acts thru team chemistry. Either way, ya gotta put in the work or else… 🥉 Remember—everyone and everything that goes into a formula for success, playing to strengths and avoiding weaknesses, gathering information daily, trusting the process… One must always REMEMBER and consciously participate in the moment in order for the stars to align. As much as Boston would love to repay Caleb Martin for last year's surprising playoff scoring fest. The C's may not have that option as we hear here that Miami's pecking order is blatantly predictable, especially without Butler and Rozier. With Boston's defensive effort most likely all-in on Bam, Herro, and Jaquez. The door of opportunity should once again be wide open for Martin to have more touches than usual, as well as Jovic. Starting at O/U 9.5 and 6.5 "Points" respectively, I see multiple pathways to potential in-game "OVER" value for either, the most of which depends on Jovic's ability to maintain just enough defensive relevance to stay on the floor. Today's big spread means we must stay acutely aware of blowout signals that can obviously eliminate crucial 4Q min's which are often needed to complete "OVER" props, especially in the playoffs. Have you heard of min-maxing? You can shorthand it to "work out something to be good at, do a ton of that, and do the least amount possible of everything else." I thought about it this weekend while umpiring 12U baseball because...well, let's be honest, 11- and 12-year olds haven't worked it out yet. In the ten-ish years I've watched this age group, one characteristic has remained consistent among even the best pitchers: when they get to an 0-2 count on a pitch the batter is hopelessly outmatched by, they follow it up with at least 2 (and frankly often 4) secondary pitches that are barely in the same zip code as the strike zone. They simply cannot believe the same thing will work a third time, regardless of the evidence. They could've had a three pitch strikeout, but they just feel like they HAVE to try something else (forgetting that the batter is not, in fact, an MLB-er who is 'sitting on the fastball'). Here's the takeaway for the day - don't complicate things. If something's working, don't 'fix' it, and if you're super good at something, do that thing as much as you can to the exclusion of pretty much everything else (other than your personal satisfaction). Being a master of something is an unbelievable gift, and one that can be the basis of a (financially AND emotionally) satisfying existence. And understanding which thing you're awesome at, rather than bashing your head against a rock trying to be good at something you're simply not, is a beautiful gift to yourself.
