Rising Threats in Cybersecurity: A Wake-Up Call for 2024 In the first half of 2024, the cybersecurity landscape faced significant challenges, with a staggering 43% rise in published vulnerabilities compared to the same period in 2023. According to Forescout's latest report, a total of 23,668 vulnerabilities were recorded, with an average of 111 new CVEs per day. Attackers have notably targeted virtual private networks (VPNs) and other perimeter devices, emphasizing the importance of robust security measures. Interestingly, the majority of these vulnerabilities were classified as medium (39%) or low (25%) in severity, with only 9% deemed critical. This contrasts with H1 2023, where a higher proportion of vulnerabilities were medium (39%) and high (27%). Additionally, the US CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog saw 87 new entries, a 23% decrease from the previous year, affecting 39 vendors. Forescout's report also highlights the evolving threat landscape, with most threat actors originating from China (65%), Russia (36%), and Iran (21%). Notably, there's a growing convergence between hacktivists and state-sponsored actors, complicating the attribution of attacks. Ransomware remains a critical concern, with attacks rising by 6% to 3,085 incidents in H1 2024. The landscape has fragmented, with top groups like LockBit, Play, and RansomHub leading the charge. 🛡️ Conclusion: The findings underscore the urgent need for organizations to strengthen their cybersecurity defenses, especially in areas like VPNs and perimeter devices. As threat actors become more sophisticated and the lines between cybercriminals and state actors blur, staying ahead of vulnerabilities is more critical than ever. In an era where cyber threats evolve at an alarming pace, organizations must adapt their security strategies to safeguard their digital assets effectively. Hosted by industry-leading experts, this event delves into the fundamental concepts of Zero Trust, emphasizing the critical need to contain the spread of breaches and ransomware across the hybrid attack surface when a breach occurs. Prevention and detection tools like firewalls, EDRs, or SIEM only give surface-level visibility into traffic flows that connect these applications, systems, and devices that are communicating across IT. They were not built to contain and stop the spread of breaches. Securing for tomorrow requires a different approach – the Zero Trust approach. Attendees will gain insights into the Zero Trust principles, which replace traditional perimeter-based security to focus on breach containment. Register here now https://lnkd.in/gpf-cqpp
