AI that generates police reports. What could possibly go wrong... Earlier today, Axon, a police contractor famous for its tazer manufacturing, rolled out its new AI tool called "Draft One." Based on GPT-4 Turbo, Draft One can transcribe audio from a body cam and turn it into a police report (sounds like a dream). All information is stored and processed on Microsoft Azure cloud servers. As per early testers, the time spent writing reports decreased by 82%. That's great. What's not so great is that hallucinations and racial bias are now going to be streamlined in police work. Axon doesn't want any trouble and recommends not using the tool when it comes to police shootings (there are no ways to control how the tool is going to be used downstream). As per Axon's CEO, they mitigated the risks from bias and hallucinations by "turning off" the creativity (whatever that means). Axon also has a short white paper that explains precisely nothing. Draft One comes with an audit trail that "lists out all the actions that any user took, so police agencies can ensure a report has been reviewed and validated."
