One of the interesting aspects of running the Master of Arts in Sustainable Energy degree here at JHU is that both student applications and capstone projects serve as leading indicators into where the clean energy industry is heading. So far, I am not seeing any decrease in interest in the energy industry because of Trump 2.0. Our application pipeline is pretty similar to 2023-2024. To me, this makes sense. Even though Trump 2.0. will likely slow down progress, it will not stop the clean energy revolution. The key thing to understand about clean technology is that it gets better every year. There is not much politicians can do about that. The clean energy industry is a great place to launch a career or business in 2025. https://lnkd.in/eYPdXzM

RWE holds emergency response challenge at East Coast College RWE teams from around the UK, Denmark and Germany came to Lowestoft to test their skills and equipment over a number of emergency response scenarios and health and safety background activities. The RESQ+ Challenge also had a beneficial impact on students attending the Energy Skills Centre at East Coast College. More than 90 students had a chance to observe real-life scenarios, while 22 members of staff enhanced their own knowledge of various industry activities…. https://lnkd.in/ev5JGBYa

What are renewable energy certificates or REC's? Here’s a detailed look at their significance: 1. Encouraging Renewable Energy Production: Market-Based Mechanism: RECs provide a market-based mechanism for promoting renewable energy. Each REC represents the environmental attributes of one megawatt-hour (MWh) of renewable energy generated. Incentivizing Development: By monetizing the environmental benefits of renewable energy, RECs create additional revenue streams for renewable energy projects, making them more financially viable and encouraging further investment and development. 2. Facilitating Compliance: Regulatory Requirements: Many regions have Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) or similar regulations that require utilities and other electricity providers to source a certain percentage of their power from renewable sources. RECs provide a way to demonstrate compliance with these requirements. Flexible Compliance Tool: Utilities can purchase RECs to meet their renewable energy targets without having to produce the renewable energy themselves, offering flexibility in how they meet regulatory mandates. 3. Supporting Corporate Sustainability Goals: Voluntary Market: Many corporations and organizations purchase RECs to meet their sustainability goals and commitments to using renewable energy. Environmental Stewardship: By purchasing RECs, companies can claim to offset their carbon footprint and demonstrate their commitment to environmental stewardship, enhancing their corporate social responsibility (CSR) profiles. 4. Tracking and Verification: Transparency and Accountability: RECs provide a standardized and verifiable way to track renewable energy production and its environmental benefits. This ensures transparency and accountability in the renewable energy market. Avoiding Double Counting: The use of RECs helps prevent double counting of renewable energy claims, ensuring that the environmental benefits of renewable energy are accurately represented and accounted for. 5. Economic Benefits: Revenue for Renewable Projects: Selling RECs provides an additional revenue stream for renewable energy producers, which can be critical for the financial sustainability of these projects. Job Creation and Economic Growth: The increased development of renewable energy projects supported by RECs can lead to job creation and economic growth, particularly in regions investing in renewable infrastructure. 6. Environmental Impact: Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions: RECs support the generation of renewable energy, which replaces fossil fuel-based power generation and reduces greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to the fight against climate change. Great resource for understanding the changes and their effects on renewable energy projects.

Wendel has had the privilege of working with the University at Buffalo on the development of their Clean Energy Master Plan for South Campus, providing an actionable roadmap to achieving a zero-carbon energy system. Among other conservation and metering improvements, the plan calls for transforming the campus’s energy system from a fossil fuel-dependent steam boiler system to a geothermal heat pump system. This transition will phase out the use of fossil fuels on campus without negatively impacting resiliency or requiring significant electrical upgrades.
