Victoria McArthur and Andy Cowan provided a really interesting insight into OnTrack Racing NZ last week in our Wellington office, in a presentation that was also shared with the rest of our New Zealand team virtually.
The racing industry’s true strength is its people, which is why we are supporting OnTrack, a charity established to support everyone working and volunteering in the New Zealand racing community, working together to improve mental health and prevent suicide. Please check out the information and resources at ontrack.org.nz.
This deserves a wider audience. I hope it brings to life some of the challenges people face, and how we as a Citizens Advice Bureau are addressing our client requirements.
Most, if not all, of us have faced challenges in life and needed to reach out for guidance and support. That’s nothing unusual or unreasonable but there seems to be a stigma attached to asking for help.
Let me tell you this, from personal life experience, it may be difficult, but it’s worth it. Be kind to yourself - it’s a strength not a weakness to recognise that you need guidance sometimes, and with Citizens Advice you will get that in a non-judgemental, free and confidential way.
Within our Bureau, we often speak about our client-centred approach to service at SWACAB, and I want to share this powerful example with a wider audience, thoughtfully written by our superstar advisor, Peggy.
Please bear in mind, this is but one example of how we combine our efforts to build advice and support around the needs of the individual.
This holistic approach delivers better outcomes for the client and taps into the wealth of knowledge and expertise we have in-house, whilst being able to liaise with third parties, accordingly, and at the same time ensuring the client stay’s in control.
This example of our work exemplifies the power of person-centred support, and how we can best deliver against our stated purpose as a Bureau in Scotland.
In a world where organisations like ours are increasingly funded and measured by quantitative targets and outputs, I am proud that we stand strong on our values of people first, qualitative evidence of impact and better outcomes for our clients, whilst delivering significant social and economic return on investment/ wider value back to the region - often many multiples of the financial grant awarded.
Please read the case study attached.
What price do you put on a good night's sleep after being so long worried about so much? How do you measure 'the weight they felt had been lifted off their shoulders by SWACAB'? Worth it's weight in gold?
The true value is in the sense of wellness and improved mental health of the client, a sense of relief and a clear pathway forward to better circumstances in that person's life.
We see an increasing trend in clients presenting with multiple issues to SWACAB, and that may take longer to support, but an holistic service is the right way to do things, and there is research to show that the outcomes for clients are better, and longer-lasting, as a result.
My Team - paid and voluntary- are making a real and meaningful impact on people's lives every day. Please share this story and let me know if you want to get involved - there are lots of ways you can be part of our work, from volunteer advisor to funder, and other opportunities in between!
Many thanks for your kind consideration of this and your ongoing interest in our work.
Grahame and all at SWACAB.

🌟 Bonafi Connects 2024 🌟
Last week we hosted our first-ever Bonafi Connects event and it was such an inspiring experience for all of us at Bonafi!
On Thursday, we gathered at beautiful Trim Castle Hotel for some meaningful discussions centred around our company’s core values: Trust, Integrity, and Respect. These conversations were not just about reaffirming what we stand for, but they helped us understand how we can breathe these values in our daily work. It was a great opportunity to share ideas, and as a young team - get to know each other better!
On Friday, we took a different turn and headed out to Causey Farm for some team-building activities. The day was filled with fun activities and laughter as we embraced the spirit of teamwork among a bunch of adorable farm animals.
For some, the day ended with some bog jumping, while others cheered from the sidelines. It was such a refreshing (muddy) way to end the week, with everyone feeling energised, more connected, and ready to take on new challenges.
Bonafi Connects was a huge success, leaving us all with excitement for the future. We're already looking forward to next year’s event and continuing to grow as a team!

Enough of the finger pointing, let's get to work.
A public goat usually dies of hunger, guess why?
Leave the goat for now, I need to tell you something that bothers me, maybe it will concern you as well.
Do you think you cannot be happy at home and at work?
Have you ever worried about the moral decadence of the society as a terrible gift we are giving to the future?
Could our woes and worries be because we do not have enough education?
You know just like everyone else that we have more varsities across the cities of the world today than we had two decades ago.
Not education, not technology, not even lack of financial resources.
There is a misplacement, the cart is before the horse. The headlamp is now inside the boot. Things are upside down because of the wrong motions being in motion.
There is a motion that puts other motions in motion; the 20% that when done, does the 80%.
The things we should seek first, we now seek last.
E•motion is that Essential Motion that puts other motions in motion, it should be the first and not the last.
We should not remember our emotions when we have suffered fatalities, but it's not your fault, it's because you are human.
The public goat dies of hunger because everyone feels everyone else has given it food.
This motion is your personal responsibility, you are the one to call the shot for yourself, your organisation or even students, do it now.
You can be happy at home and at work.
Our society can know the right thing to do and do it.
When you know how to drive emotions, emotion will drive people and people will drive performance and performance improves our forms and substances.
Unpopular truth ✍🏽
You don't need everyone to be good people but with a worthy level of emotional intelligence, you can get good results from bad places, take note carefully.
At the EQ Clinic, we are not pointing fingers, we are helping people to know how to use the fingers to win the battles of both personal and business challenges.
