The celebration of South Africa's 30 years of democracy through film focuses on a significant milestone in the country's journey towards reconciliation and progress. The end of apartheid unleashed a surge of creativity in the film industry, providing filmmakers with newfound freedom to explore diverse narratives and perspectives. Cinema, as a powerful medium of expression, has played a pivotal role in shaping the national identity and fostering dialogue on social issues. Through storytelling, South African filmmakers have confronted the legacies of apartheid, celebrated the resilience of the human spirit, and advocated for a more inclusive society. As the nation continues to navigate its complex history and identity, cinema remains a vital tool for reflection, reconciliation, and envisioning a brighter future. #SouthAfrica #DemocracyCelebration #FilmIndustry #SocialChange #Identity #Inclusion #CinemaReflections https://lnkd.in/eVZJgu76

Excited about this collaboration with Another Life. I can recommend to check out their research and ressources on representation and discrimination in the Danish cultural industry. Shedding light on representation and creating the data in order to raise the bar for the discussion in Denmark requires a critical approach to your methodological framework.. And I think they're doing a great job in considering their role and methods https://lnkd.in/dNRsDeBb

🍁⭐ Assimilating vs. Preserving Cultural Traditions 🌱🌍 Finding the right balance between assimilating into a new country and holding onto our cultural and traditional values is a journey many of us embark on when moving abroad -- and often depending on when that move is made, it can be an easier or more challenging process. As we adapt to new customs and norms, it's essential to reflect on what aspects of our heritage we want to preserve. While embracing the culture of our new home can enrich our lives and open doors to new opportunities, staying connected to our roots helps us maintain a sense of identity and belonging. It's about cherishing the diversity within ourselves and our communities. For some, those roots may be retained (sometimes silently) within us until the day we return to the earth. As we, or those around us, navigate this balancing act, let's remember that diversity is not about conformity but about celebration. It's about honouring where we come from while embracing where we are. By embracing both our past and present, we pave the way for a more inclusive and harmonious future. As part of this week's post, I wanted to share a link to a short film I came across that has been nominated for the US College TV Awards. It's an autobiographical story, by filmmaker Tony Shi, about moving from China to Canada when he was 8 and growing up in a foreign country. It's stories like these that we want to celebrate as a multicultural nation. 🎖️ Intro: https://lnkd.in/gYW92RGx 🎞️ Trailer: https://lnkd.in/g-HATzZq #Multiculturalism #Diversity #Inclusion #CulturalHeritage #Identity #MulticulturalMarketing #CanadianMarketing #ChineseMarketing

• Locarno Film Festival Team: 57.4% of the staff that makes the realization of the event possible are women, showcasing our commitment to equal opportunities. • Selection Committees: the two official committees that select feature and short films are gender–balanced, consisting of 4 men and 5 women. • Juries: the official juries that select the winning films of the 77th edition are composed of 8 women (including the Jury President of the Concorso Internazionale) and 9 men. → 7 out of 17 films in Concorso Internazionale were directed by women (41.2%) and 1 film is a mixed co–direction (5.9%) → 7 out of 15 films in Concorso Cineasti del Presente were directed by women (46.7%) Bravo to the Locarno Film Festival team for gathering this data and making significant strides for diversity. Gathering diversity metrics should be something every festival should engage it. Absolutely stunned by Locarno's leadership in paving the way forward. #locarno #diversity #leadership #filmfestival #switzerland

Is the work of a manager of a film festival for a nonprofit in the U.S. national interest? The USCIS thinks so! It approved the “national interest waiver” petition of global human rights organization for a senior manager of the organization’s film festival. USCIS agreed that the individual’s behind-the-scenes work in selecting and promoting independent film served to educate U.S. audiences, including policy makers, on some of today’s most challenging human rights situations around the world. The national interest was that the Senior Manager’s work supported the organization’s festival and its goal to engage impacted communities, decision-makers, and policy makers in conversations around human rights issues. And promoting human rights whether through policy or through film is certainly in the U.S. national interest. Her work in supporting the film festival helps to broaden the public discourse and highlight a range of global human rights concerns, thereby stimulating popular dialogue that not only shapes public opinion but also has the potential to influence U.S. policy makers in both foreign and domestic policy matters. We are proud to support this organization in obtaining the approved national interest waiver petition for its Senior Manager. #USCIS #USCISapproval #ImmigrationLaw #ImmigrationSuccess

There is a rich and complex history of film in both Africa and Latin America. In the African diaspora, filmmakers such as Ousmane Sembène, Haile Gerima, and Djibril Diop Mambéty have explored themes of colonialism, cultural identity, and the experience of migration. In Latin America, filmmakers like Fernando Solanas, Patricio Guzmán, and Jorge Sanjinés have used film to explore themes of political struggle, social inequality, and the legacy of colonialism. These filmmakers have created a vibrant and diverse body of work that has been an important part of the cultural landscape. #ZIFF23 #aspiration5 #Africanfilmmakers Telco Broadband and Beyond PlayAfrikaTV EcoSureZW DStv
