🌟 Calling on the Power of My Network: Internship Advice for Aspiring Biotech Professionals 🌟 As many of you may know, this time of year brings both excitement and uncertainty for our college seniors as they prepare for the next chapter in their careers. One question I often hear from my kids and their friends is: How do I secure an internship that will set me up for success in my field? My daughter, a senior at the University of Wisconsin, is majoring in chemistry and business and is exploring rotating internships at biotech companies. She's particularly interested in opportunities that provide exposure to various aspects of the industry, including commercial and product development. (Actually, my son, a junior at Drake, is similarly looking for internships in computer science and mathematics.) I'm reaching out to all of you for your advice and experiences. Did your kids, colleagues, or friends navigate a similar path, and what was their plan for success? Do you have any recommendations for companies that offer these kinds of diverse, hands-on learning experiences? I'm sure many others could benefit from your suggestions, so feel free to share! Thank you in advance for your help and insights. 🙏 #internships #biotech #careeradvice #chemistry #business #nextgenleaders

Why invest in interns? Because it's not just smart business—it's a strategic imperative for fostering future talent and driving innovation. UVU Bio's Skills Development Programme Manager, Martyna Scibiorek PhD, Ing. reflects on this, highlighting that "Internships transcend the conventional narrative of coffee runs or making copies; they're about nurturing the next generation of talent and providing them with opportunities to flourish. By assigning meaningful tasks and responsibilities, we empower interns to grow their skills, expand their knowledge, and gain invaluable hands-on experience in their chosen field. This investment isn't just a virtuous deed; it's a savvy business move. Fostering a culture of mentorship and learning cultivates a pipeline of skilled professionals who could potentially become future leaders within our organisation." Join us in recognising the transformative power of internships, not just as a as a chance to give back, but a strategic investment in the future of our workforce and the growing biotech sector. #UVUBio #Biotech #InternsInTraining #HireInterns

Find out more about her experiences at Evonik. 👤 Riddhi 💼 Summer Professional Enrichment (SPE) Intern – Research, Development, and Innovation 🎤 What can you share about your experience as a SPE Intern? 👤 My experience as a SPE intern has been nothing short of amazing. I have felt very comfortable and feel that I have been given many resources to succeed in the workplace. Evonik has granted me the chance to strengthen my current knowledge and skills and discover new interests. I am so grateful for the opportunity to intern at a company that prioritizes creating a company culture in which employees can grow professionally. 🎤 It is your second internship with Evonik. Can’t believe I’m already halfway done with my internship at Applied Materials! Here are some of the coolest things I’ve experienced throughout the first 6 weeks of my internship: ⛳ Applied Summer Games: Full of fun activities such as spikeball, corn hole, kan jam, and lots of FREE food (My favorite). Got to network with other interns and create memories together. 🎙️ Fireside Chat With CEO: Had the opportunity to learn from Applied Materials CEO Gary Dickerson. Gained insights on how Applied Materials has created an impact in the semiconductor industry and the technology world. In addition, I would like to share a few keys takeaways I have learned so far: 📝 Take notes even if you’re just sitting in a meeting. You never know when those notes will come in handy. Writing notes also helps you better retain information that was covered throughout the meeting. Personally, I like to use a physical notebook to document everything. 🎯 Keep track of your work and present your progress to your manager/supervisor. Lots of time, managers could be busy and might forget to dedicate time to follow up with your internship progress. Scheduling meetings with your manager to go over what you have accomplished will show that you are well organized and goal oriented. 🙋♂️ Ask detailed questions. Utilize your free time to do in-depth research on the project or task you’re working on. Then, spend some time with your manager or team members to discuss the questions you gathered during the process. Oftentimes, you’ll find yourself learning a lot more than just listening from peers. Looking forward to the remaining weeks and continuing to learn and grow! #Intern #AppliedIntern #MakePossible #GreatThingsHappenHere

I've recently started my first trainee role as a research scientist and while the journey has its ups and downs I've coined a few lessons I've learned so far: 1. Getting into a new research setting /lab culture isn't easy: just because I was familiar with being in a lab doesn't mean it's the same for all labs. They each have their own protocols, standards and different equipment which you will have to oblige by and make your way through. 2. Research outlook: the team youre working under have a specific goal and outlook of the project you're carrying out so it's important it aligns with yours. For instance, if it's an industrial based project, have the notion of pursuing the project for the sake of the team, company rather than just sake of internship! It changes the way you conduct and value your work. 3. Don't get too disheartened if your first week of experiments don't go too well albeit this was me because I was worried I didn't meet the expectations of my team. 😅😔However in an open discussion, I was told to not worry too much about the ups and downs in the results as long as you learn something from it. I've still got a lot to learn but I thought and hope these insights would give you a view of the culture you'll be immersing yourself in one day! #lablife #researchintern
