Nisient - Pioneering Tech for Social Sustainability. As knowledge based innovators, it seemed appropriate that our name should be derived from the 17th Century word ‘Omniscient’, meaning ‘all knowing’. Pioneering by nature, Nisient disrupts the status quo and sets progressive new benchmarks in data network transmission designed to increase our clients efficiency, scalability and provide a more effective way of ‘day to day’ management of their assets whilst minimising cost. Seven key things to keep in mind if you want your business to succeed. Bo Vialle-Derksen (The Josh Bersin Company) says in her presentation here at GreenTech Amsterdam that whatever kind of work you do, you work in the people business. She names seven things that are important for employees, according to global research: ✅ Meaningful work: People want autonomy over what they do ✅ Strong management: People want good leaders ✅ Positive workplace: Everyone wants to work with people that they truly like ✅ Health and wellbeing: A safe workspace ✅ Growth opportunities: Do I understand what my next step is? ✅ Trust in the organization: Do I understand the vision and the mission of my organization? And do people walk the talk? ✅ Technology and services: Can I do my work in an efficient way?

Our approach to innovation ? the NGO approach to innovation is characterized by a strong focus on social impact, collaboration, and adaptability. This involves typically several key elements: 1. **Addressing Social Needs:** we innovate to solve specific social or environmental problems, focusing on issues that may be overlooked by the private sector or government. 2. **Collaboration:** we frequently partner with other organizations, including governments, businesses, and community groups, to leverage resources, expertise, and networks. 3. **Participatory Methods:** we often engage with the communities they serve to ensure that innovations are relevant and effective. This approach helps in designing solutions that are tailored to the actual needs of the community. 4. **Scalability and Sustainability:** we aim to develop solutions that can be scaled up and sustained over time, often by incorporating local resources and capacities. 5. **Flexibility and Adaptability:** Due to the dynamic nature of social issues, we need to be flexible and willing to adapt their approaches based on feedback and changing circumstances. 6. **Resource Constraints:** we typically work with limited resources, which drives them to be creative and resourceful in their problem-solving approaches.

Why business should collaborate with academia and vice versa. It was a salutary experience attending the launch of UCL's new Centre for Sustainable Business at Canary Wharf on Friday evening. In the keynotes, panel discussion and networking it was clear that innovative ideas are key to the sustainability agenda BUT single actors cannot generate these ideas in isolation. Too often business talks to itself, the conversation is inside the building only, it's a big career risk talking seriously and openly with external stakeholders. Yet that is exactly where innovation comes. At the same time, academia is still in the grip of 'publish or perish' culture. New ideas are locked in arcane, internecine debates rather than driving real world impacts. Yet that is exactly where innovation comes. So it was a breath of fresh air to see and hear the buzz at the Centre's launch. Led by Professors Paolo Taticchi, OMRI and Onesun Steve Yoo, the centre's mission is to shape a sustainable future by empowering businesses and leaders with cutting-edge knowledge and tools for sustainable business transformation. Mettle Capital is proud to be lead data provider for the Centre, contributing our data to business and researchers to spark the conversations from where innovation comes. I am confident that the Centre will become a nexus for bringing together business and academia to address sustainable business transformation. Just seeing the graduate students rolling up their sleeves and getting on with it was an antidote to the negativity that can consume sustainability advocates. Technological advancements, for example, can increase productivity, reduce costs, and open up new markets. - Social Development: Innovations in healthcare, education, and infrastructure improve quality of life, enhance social well-being, and promote societal progress. For instance, medical innovations can lead to better treatments and increased life expectancy. - Environmental Sustainability: Innovative solutions are crucial for addressing environmental challenges. Progress in renewable energy technologies, for instance, is essential for reducing dependence on fossil fuels and combating climate change. 2. Progress Facilitating Further Innovation - Improved Infrastructure: Progress in infrastructure, such as better communication networks and transportation systems, creates a conducive environment for further innovation. It allows for the efficient exchange of ideas and resources. - Educational Advancements: Progress in education systems equips individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to innovate. A more educated population is better positioned to engage in creative problem-solving and drive technological advancements. - Policy and Regulatory Support: Societal progress often leads to the development of policies and regulations that support and encourage innovation. “Businesses need to distinguish between three types of innovation impacts to maintain their credibility and legitimacy. The first is doing less harm, where the goal is to minimize social wrongs and reduce ecological footprints. The second is incremental positive impact, where the goal is to increase prosperity, regenerate nature, and improve wellbeing through initiatives that are typically of limited scope. The third is system-wide positive impact, where scalable business innovations have a discernible capacity to “move the needle” on social and global challenges such as climate change and social equity.”
