[The other side of mentoring...] There were 16 people online in their mentoring sessions today and one of the mentees was particularly grateful. 🎙 "It’s so amazing, you don’t hear this or get any of this in school. Thank you so much."" But then there's the other side of mentoring... when the mentees don't turn up! Here's a picture of those few mentors, and look how happy they are. Everyone understanding that sometimes it's just that "You know they're 14 years old and it's Friday. Don't be too hard on them!". These fine people representing compassion on behalf of various employers including Newham Council, The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), and The Hill Group. 🤷♀️ What does Trailblazers look for in a mentor? 😁 Listen to one of Trailblazers' incredible mentors at HMP Brixton talk about his day job and why he volunteers as a mentor. Trailblazers are looking for Volunteer Mentors from all walks of life. You don't need to have done mentoring before as you will be given comprehensive training and ongoing support in your role. It is those transferrable people skills that are so valuable. We are looking for Volunteers who are reliable and can build trust. Who have excellent listening skills, and are open minded and non-judgemental. Someone who is able to build a rapport with others and to communicate with a wide variety of people. Someone who is thoughtful and reflective and enjoys working through and solving problems collaboratively. We also encourage applications from those with lived experience of the criminal justice system. Beginning of week 2 of e-Mentoring, had to double check this as didn't believe my excel formula was correct but so far the mentees on our programme have sent in total 249 messages to their mentors. I know its quality not quality that counts, but the content is fantastic, as well, as are the equally brilliant responses from our volunteers. This week we're asking our younger participants to look at revision and managing stress and our older mentees are looking at pathways after sixth form. #mentoring #volunteers #wideningaccess #STEM
