✏️ The MoneyGuide team at our Powhatan office had an amazing time volunteering for the YMCA’s Bright Beginnings back-to-school event! We helped 115 kids pick out new clothes, backpacks, and hygiene products to kick off the school year with confidence. The smiles and excitement from the kids (and our team!) made the day truly special. #ENVCares
In a world where it's easy to get caught up in our own lives, showing kids the magic of giving and being selfless is like handing them a special superpower. When they dive into volunteering and doing kind things for others, it's not just about helping out – it's a joy that sticks with them for a lifetime. So, let's chat about all the cool ways kids can spread happiness through volunteering and acts of kindness in this blog post! 🌟

"Many homeschoolers have a great amount of flexibility at home, which is one of the beauties of homeschooling, but that flexibility is not always found on a job. Learning this can be helpful!” – Cindy LaJoy

This is important for a volunteer program to be successful.
-Is the program reporting to the right leadership?
-Can it contribute to feedback and it be valued?
-Is it considered in the changes being determined?
-Does the culture promote integrating volunteers as team members?
To promote a strong culture of community engagement, demonstrate where you value volunteer participation.

Volunteering: The Gift That Keeps On Giving
As we navigate our busy lives, it's easy to get caught up in our own priorities and forget the impact we can have on others. Volunteering is a powerful way to make a difference, and it benefits not only the causes we care about but also ourselves!
By volunteering, we:
- Gain new skills and experiences
- Expand our networks and connections
- Enhance our mental and emotional well-being
- Develop a fresh perspective and gratitude
- Inspire others and create a ripple effect of kindness
Let's make a positive impact and invest in our communities. Let's volunteer and watch how it transforms our lives and the lives of those around us!

Walk in the Park: Dog Distraction Class
It’s a different kind of walk in the park at See Differently’s weekly dog distraction classes for our pups in training.
At these sessions, volunteers guide the pups through various exercises designed to help them stay focused (despite lots of tempting distractions like other dogs, toys, and people). Sofie and Bree from the puppy team lead the class with lots of tips and tricks to keep the students on the right track!
Teaching our dogs these skills early on is essential for them to become well-trained and reliable companions.
We're looking for more volunteers to help raise and train our next generation of See Differently guide or assistance dogs. We have various volunteering opportunities to suit everyone. Why Story Dogs is Needed Now More Than Ever: The NAPLAN 2024 Wake-Up Call
The 2024 NAPLAN results are a wake-up call—over 34,000 Year 3 students need additional support with reading. 📚 This makes Story Dogs more crucial than ever. We’re already helping nearly 3,000 students each week, but with so many children still at risk of falling behind, our mission has never been more urgent.
Your support can make a world of difference. Whether it’s through volunteering, sponsoring a dog, or spreading the word, you can help us reach more students and ensure every child has the chance to succeed.
Let’s turn the tide and make reading a joy for all—one story, and one wagging tail, at a time. 🐾💛

🤝 Last week, our very own Stephanie Lockwood facilitated a children's judging panel in the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation and Chapter One story writing competition. Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation is one of our Platinum Partners, and an employee-led independent registered charity focusing on tackling food insecurity and its root causes.
📖 Sodexo UK and Ireland’s Parents and Carers network sponsored the competition, inviting Sodexo employees to use some of their paid volunteering time to craft an online children's story, on the theme of 'Bringing People Together Through Food'.
🏆 There were three books for the panel to read and discuss, and we hear it was a tough decision! After much deliberation and discussion, the winning story was chosen by the children. The next stage will see the book professionally edited, illustrated and published on the Chapter One reading platform for our online reading volunteers to use in their sessions. It will also be added to Chapter One’s Global Free Library, for thousands of children around the world to enjoy!
🌟 We love the creative ways our corporate partners help us to tell the world about our mission to transform children’s futures with targeted reading support! A huge thank you to Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation, Sodexo’s Parents and Carers network and all the entrants and judges.
