🚨 Big Oil is pulling the strings behind the scenes! At Environmental Defence, we've tracked over 466 oil & gas lobbying meetings with the federal government by May this year – that’s 5 meetings every workday! 😲 But what’s worse? They’re influencing decisions in ways we can’t even track. A recent bombshell report exposed how TC Energy’s lobbyist boasted about manipulating politicians— from slipping policies to government staffers to cozying up with ambassadors. But here’s the thing: these tactics aren’t unique to TC Energy—they’re standard practices across Big Oil. Want to stop this? Let’s take action! ✊💥 👉 Click here to #StopBigOil now! https://bit.ly/3XlrxyD #ClimateAction #FossilFree #EndFossilFuels #LobbyingExposed #ClimateCrisis 🌍

Airborne data identifies basin wide methane emissions that are 4 times greater that reported inventories in US. Oil production is more leaky than gas production. Marginal wells with aged infrastructure that are greatest leak rate with Uinta at 7%.
📢 Groundbreaking new data reveals that U.S. oil and gas fields emit over 4 times more methane than estimated by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). MethaneAIR's comprehensive aerial measurements indicate a staggering 7.5 million metric tons of methane per year. That’s enough wasted gas to meet the annual energy needs of over half of U.S. homes. These findings underscore the need for accurate, measurement-based data to effectively manage and mitigate methane emissions and give a preview of what MethaneSAT will soon be able to see. 🔍 Read more: https://lnkd.in/dwq7xWmq

According to the results of an aerial survey released by the Environmental Defense Fund, U.S. oil and gas basins are emitting around four times more planet-warming methane than federal regulators have estimated. EDF and partners started a project, known as MethaneAIR, in which they used a jet equipped with a spectrometer to measure methane emissions over 12 oil and gas basins last year. This project found that the average methane emissions rate of the studied basins was 7.5 million metric tons per year, a rate that is about four times higher than what EPA estimates, based on numbers EPA receives from industry reports. This project provides crucial evidence that the EPA should implement stronger methane regulations to reduce emissions. Court Blocks Biden-Harris Methane Emissions Rule In Five States. A federal judge temporarily halted the enforcement of a Biden-Harris administration rule in five states on Thursday designed to reduce methane emissions and minimize natural gas waste on federal lands. U.S. District Court Judge Daniel Traynor issued a preliminary injunction that temporarily blocks the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) from enforcing a new rule that was implemented in April in North Dakota, Montana, Texas, Wyoming and Utah, according to The Hill. These states argued that the federal rule, which mandates oil and gas companies to implement waste reduction plans and leak detection programs on public lands, constitutes an overreach of federal authority, infringing upon state rights. The contested rule requires operators to curtail the venting, flaring and leaking of natural gas during oil extraction processes, the outlet reported. The Biden-Harris administration has made it part of its climate agenda to reduce certain emissions, like methane, the primary component of natural gas. #emission #emissiontech #Energytransition #Oil #Carbon

🚨 InfluenceMap’s latest fossil fuel newsletter unveils a wave of advocacy by oil & gas giants targeting the Biden administration’s temporary pause on LNG export permits. This advocacy is misaligned with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s science-based guidance for limiting warming to 1.5°C. The newsletter also uncovers policy engagement by US utilities & industry groups seeking to expand the US Department of Energy’s implementation revisions to the National Environmental Policy Act. The permissions proposed by the DOE would allow certain federal agency projects that are determined to have no significant environmental impact to proceed without detailed environmental analyses. Utilities and industry groups’ advocacy focuses on expanding these categories to include infrastructure that could pave the way to fast-track non-renewable energy projects & promote fossil fuels.
