BREAKING: A bombshell SCOTUS decision could make it easier for polluters to harm millions of people. The court’s extreme supermajority has overturned the Chevron Doctrine, an essential legal principle the country depends on to ensure clean air, clean water, food safety and more. Investigative reporting revealed industry forces responsible for extensive pollution are behind the cases in this ruling. We can’t let them win. While legalese can be difficult to understand, we’re here to make this one simple. The government’s ability to protect communities from modern dangers like unsafe air, water, drugs, and food is currently under threat. Before the end of the year, the Supreme Court will decide whether or not to weaken Chevron deference after nearly 40 years. This poses a significant threat to the power of #federal agencies to be flexible and use their expertise to combat pollution, address #climatechange, and safeguard consumers without explicit authorization from Congress. As advocates for climate equity, we are strongly against this change and encourage you to read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/gYvnvAdu

The Environmental Effects Monitoring is in addition to the EPA’s real-time monitoring and in-person monitoring of the Oil and Gas operations occurring within Guyana’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). In the photos Ms. Devika Samaroo and Mr. Nehru Narine, can be seen working with the independent international experts to collect sediment and water quality samples that will later be analyzed and compared to environmental baseline data to establish temporal trends and determine environmental changes. #Environmental #Effects #Monitoring

Last December, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized a rule that would significantly reduce methane pollution from new and existing oil and gas wells across the country. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas that is over 80 times stronger than carbon dioxide over 20 years, and a substantial amount leaks from oil and gas infrastructure. States are now tasked with updating their oil and gas industry air quality standards to align with these EPA standards. This would be done through a process called a State Implementation Plan (SIP). It is critical that Pennsylvania has a strong SIP so that the public health, economic, and environmental benefits from the rule can be realized. News Update: Texas agency to vote Wednesday on expansion of Valero refinery in Corpus Christi Tomorrow, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is set to decide the fate of a planned refinery expansion in Corpus Christi, Texas. The three-member Governor-appointed group will vote on a permit that, if approved, would allow Valero to expand its oil refining capabilities at their Corpus Christi West plant. Valero faces an uphill battle after local opponents including Citizens for Environmental Justice secured a legal win from a Texas State administrative law judge last year. The judge is recommending that the permit be denied, because Valero’s planned expansion project fails to meet federal Clean Air Act rules to limit emissions of smog-forming nitrogen oxides, which damage people’s respiratory systems and are linked to long-term lung conditions. “We expect the Commission to accept the fact findings and legal conclusions of the judge who heard all the evidence and determined that this permit should be denied,” said Environmental Integrity Project attorney Ilan Levin. The ENVI hearing hosting O&G from oil sand CEOs was very interesting, CEOs said they dont agree with Emission Cap, that Carbon pricing is the best way (but opossition has said they will <axe the tax>) so not decarbonization? The husband of a MP is a lobbyst but that did not stop the MP to instead of asking questions make a long statement in defence of the very rich O&G Lots of arguments of the O&G was that they are <reducing emissions intensity> and their desire that the last barrels of oil should (must) be canadian because we have more ethical rules comparing with Middle East producers, but forgot about other oil producers like Brazil, US, Mexico or Algeria which emissions are much much lower than oil sands, including the offshore oil from the East Coast Lots of questions from MPs about excess profits, lobbying and pollution caused by e.g. Imperial to indigenous people but either questions ignored or avoided or clearly denied… :-(

Finally, the time has come. We have the chance to make right, all the hurt that has been done, but will justice be served, where justice is due? Will this be another case dismissed before it is heard? Or like so many cases before this, will it just go on for years only to be denied by another court system blatantly ignoring our environmental and humanitarian rights? We can no longer base litigation on the principles of law that were created by men. We must push for higher standards and stipulations to be added into our judicial systems that are solely based on what is ethically and morally right. We can’t continue practicing law while disregarding consideration for the safety, and health of all living organisms. If we don't move forward to protect ourselves, history shows, no one else will either. It is truly time for a call to action from everyone individually and as a whole. After all, if I’m correct, it’s united we stand, for the justice of all, isn’t it? All I know is as we stand divided we are definitely falling, and we are falling fast.

A recent EPA report confirms that coal ash—the toxic byproduct of burning coal—likely poses greater risks to groundwater and soil than previously estimated. Unfortunately, Indiana’s coal fired power plants generate millions of tons of coal ash waste every year: most of it is dumped near Indiana’s major rivers and lakes, including Lake Michigan in unlined ponds or landfills, or used as fill in construction projects. This is why CLC has been providing legal representation to the Hoosier Environmental Council to ensure that existing federal coal ash regulations are rigorously enforced. We also join with countless other environmental organizations and community groups from around the country calling for EPA to strengthen those regulations. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gbyjYMRi

1moThe United States Supreme Court is setting the US decades back in environmental protection.. Our children and grandchildren will end up paying the bill of serious environmental damage if we allow that irresponsable court decision to stand. VOTE FOR SENATORS AND REESENTATIVE CANDIDATES THAT WILL REVERSE THAT DECISION
