7 Home Lawn Care Tips from Golf Course Superintendents: It might be unrealistic to maintain the same quality turf conditions as a golf course without a five- or six-figure maintenance budget, but we spoke to a few superintendents at top clubs across the Northeast who believe you can have a healthy yard simply by following a few of tricks of the trade. https://lnkd.in/efp6dmDN #lawn #lawncare #golfcourse #golfcoursemaintenance

The Stat: According to a study done by Puttview that had 20 golfers each putt 10 uphill putts and 10 downhill putts (i.e. 400 putts analyzed in total), the uphill putts were holed ~50% more frequently than the downhill putts. This was retested and the same results were reflected - uphill putts go in ~60% of the time whereas the downhill putts only go in ~40% of the time. The Takeaway: When hitting approach shots into greens, most of us are just happy to be on the putting surface. But with a little research prep or a yardage book, you can also consider the contours of the green. Try to give yourself as many uphill putts as possible throughout a round. Having a downhill 20 foot slider is a sure-fire way to 3-putt, easily avoided if you emphasize misses below the hole! #WildGolf #GolfStats #CureMySwing

Croquet anyone? Hot Springs Village's Croquet Lawn is an artificial turf located at 200 DeSoto Park Lane, next to the Bocce Ball courts. In croquet, a player uses a mallet to hit a ball through hoop-shaped wickets. The sport is great for those looking for a game that is easy on the joints and requires moderate physical activity. Croquet requires only one basic skill, that of propelling a ball with a degree of accuracy. The principal difference between croquet and most other outdoor sports in that croquet requires delicacy and skill, rather than speed or strength. It also requires tactical ability and forward planning rather than quick reflexes. https://bit.ly/3CM3ah2 #croquet #HotSpringsVillage

Winter turf management: Prevention is better than cure! Coming into January the amount of activity on the cricket square will depend on what the weather’s like – particularly how cold it is. Here are some jobs to be getting on with: ❄️Inspect regularly signs of disease, especially Red Thread and Fusarium ❄️If no frost / signs of disease brush the pitch in the morning to knock dew off the leaf blade – you can do this by walking over the pitch and physically brushing it (using a long rod/swishing pole of the type commonly used on golf greens) or, if two people are available, by pulling a rope across the surface of the grass sward. Knocking the dew off helps the grass plant dry out, reducing the risk of diseases that thrive in damp conditions. ❄️Check equipment in store and arrange any last minute servicing Looking for support and advice with your natural cricket square maintenance? There’s an ongoing debate between the merits of artificial grass and natural grass in rugby. Most stadiums in both rugby league and union have natural grass. However, there are a growing number of stadiums opting for artificial grass rugby fields due to the range of benefits these surfaces offer. - Typically, natural grass pitches can handle between 2-6 hours of use per week. Artificial grass, on the other hand, can withstand between 60-80 hours of use per week. - Natural turf requires regular mowing, watering and fertilising to make sure it grows in the best way possible. Artificial grass simply requires regular brushing. - Natural grass pitches will develop lumps, bumps and holes over time, resulting in an uneven, dangerous surface. With synthetic turf, the height and thickness of every blade is perfectly uniform, making for consistent ball behaviour. Looking for an artificial grass rugby pitch of your own? We’d be happy to help. Check out our rugby services page for more information: https://lnkd.in/e9RgwbHS #rugby #sports #rugbypitch

For the sporty types, all types of sports courts, golf putting greens, and lawns scaled as fields are ideal additions to any backyard! Golf greens are particularly easy to maintain if done with faux turf (We know, we know… but actually the green plastic stuff is getting a lot nicer! We are surprised by the realism of the newly developed ‘grass,’ and with no watering, no mowing, and no weeds to mess up your game, it does have its advantages.)
