let me put y'all on game real quick, how to go from working blue collar jobs (physical and labor intensive) to white collar jobs (corporate jobs). a step by step guide as my audidence expands, i want to ensure i'm providing advice FOR ALL. i believe in equity for all and education & career accessibly for ALL , this is what you need to do (sign up for my all things career+ college + community newsletter here: https://lnkd.in/gkDKnnu5 ) step one: create a word document and google document with everything you do at your jobs. try to quantify all your projects, customers you serve, shelves you stock, etc. you need to be able to talk about you work experience in both qualitative and quantitative metrics. step two: you need to TECHNICAL skills that pair well with the skills you already have. it can be tech certification, project management certification, cybersecurity certifications, teaching certifications, financial certifications, etc. you NEED technical skills. step three: look about accredited academic and career institutions that provide formal education (e.g degrees, certifications, continued learning programs, post-graduate certifications) step four: look at your companies tuition reimbursement policy. in know FOR SURE that Hooters of America has tuition reimbursement, because i received it every semester. most corporates has some educational reimbursement for both part-time and full-time employees. step five: once you've identified what you want to get a certification in, go to your state's workforce commission website and see if they offer these industry standard certifications and testing vouchers for FREE. if you live in the state of texas here's access to free ACCREDITED AND INDUSTRY tech, project management, hr, and cybersecurity certifications: https://lnkd.in/gfSyTjJ5 step six: research government agencies, institutions, corporations, and universities that are offering more free trainings and certifications. step seven: start creating a portfolio, corporate resume, and linkedin. step eight: building your professional visibility and network on linkedin. this is where you will network and spotlight you work. leverage the skill of storytelling on social media step nine: research conferences and networking events in your area, and start going to those events. true networking starts are the social events and expo halls. you don't need to buy expensive tickets. rsvp for all of the company events. step ten: look FLY. you need to be DRESSED. put it ON. have you outfit be a talking piece. honorable mention: have your elevator pitch down pack; it should not should robotic and rehearsed. it should be personable and as smooth as molasses. want more personalize career + educational advice and resources; be sure to text me ;) https://lnkd.in/gkDKnnu5 #CareerDevelopment #CareerTransition #CareerGuide #JobSkills #TechnicalSkills #CertificationPrograms #ProfessionalBranding #JobSearchStrategy #CareerCoaching #PersonalBranding

Today marks 1 year at vCom Solutions! I don't think time has ever moved so fast for me. I think it means a couple things: 1) I'm old. 2) I'm learning a ton! I'm going to hope it's mostly the learning stuff. Here are some things I've learned in the last year: 1) There's always more to learn! Every time I'm confident I think I have something figured out, I learn something new that deepens my knowledge, learn a caveat that's important for application, or learn that maybe I didn't have it figured out at all and I've got a lot more to learn. 2) Execution is more important than planning! I'm a huge planner and will always think it's important to sharpen the saw before you cut down the tree, but executing is where the rubber meets the road and results are made. If you can't/don't execute a plan, the plan is worthless. 3) I don't always have to get my way! I tend to be a devil's advocate and I think that can be really good. But sometimes, it's better to get moving on someone else's idea, than to fight for my own (see point 2). 4) I'm a morning person! I've moved almost all my meetings to afternoons and I focus as much as I can every morning on executing and making progress on my projects. Thanks Kelli Bryce Law for bringing me to vCom!
