Today is World Mental Health Day. World Mental Health Day is celebrated worldwide every day on October 10th. 🌟“For too long, the goal of therapy has been to help people adapt to oppression and cope with the ongoing trauma of colonial, capitalist, and white supremacist systems. Well the old paradigm is crumbling, and frankly, it’s long overdue.” - Dr. Jennifer Mullan, PsyD 🌟Decolonizing behavioral health practices confronts the multi-generational impact that colonization has had on all of us. It works to recenter the collective healing process for all indigenous peoples and those who were forcibly displaced across the world. It rejects individualistic ideals and the pathologization of people’s core experiences. Decolonization reaffirms that mental health is accessible to ALL, giving everyone a chance at the journey to liberation (Mullan, 2024). How have you decolonized your practice? What are your ideas?
