Thanks to Central Florida Foundation our nonprofit Modern Widows Club will serve a larger community for #LGBTQ #widows. While LGBTQ widows may share some #grief experiences with heterosexual widows, they also encounter distinct challenges related to varying biological family acceptance, support levels, and the crucial need for supportive friends and chosen families as advocates. Recognizing the unique consequences of spousal loss within this community is essential, and it's important to be aware of the differences in normative grief to growth widow support. If you know someone qualified to be interviewed, we welcome them no matter where they live since this is virtual support. Our objective is to offer vital support to the LGBTQ community by launching the inaugural virtual and in-person Modern Widows Club community in Central Florida (and beyond virtually), specifically addressing the needs of this underserved and vulnerable population. This program is crafted to assist grieving partners and spouses in finding a sense of belonging, providing access to our comprehensive 3-step Hope-Heal-Grow support series, and offering coping resources. Through this initiative, our goal is to cultivate an in-person and virtual community that mitigates feelings of #depression, #misunderstanding, #isolation, #loneliness, #overwhelm, #anger, and #fears. We aim to extend crucial assistance to a community in Central Florida grappling with a prevalent #mentalhealth issue affecting a substantial number of our constituents. This #grant will serve as the catalyst for launching a new community within our targeted service area and empower us to broaden our impact. By the conclusion of this grant period, our aspiration is to have identified and developed two new leaders who will guide and advocate for this emerging service community within our #nonprofit organization, dedicated to the inclusion and well-being of all widows. The grant funds will be directed toward the identification, interview process, and training of two LGBTQ widow leaders who are committed to volunteering for a minimum of two years. These leaders will play a crucial role in initiating a service support community and facilitating our coping and mental health programs. #widowsupport #publichealth #leadership #resilience #growth #socialimpact #mentalhealth #communityhealth #partnership #initiative

Gratitude practice has been proven to provide many health and mental health benefits. But it's not about just making a list of things you are grateful for. It's the leaning into the feeling of gratitude that makes the difference. By focusing on one or two things each day that you are grateful for and leaning into the feeling of gratitude, you will have many more positive benefits from the practice. https://lnkd.in/ghjH9tyV #therapy #queer #mindfulness #traumahealing #fundraiser #suppoettransyouthms #wellness #lgbtqia #lgbtqcommunity #lgbtq #lgbtqiaplus #therapy #traumarecovery #midcoast #genderaffirming #genderaffirmingcare #transgendercare #polyaffirming #bodypostitvetherapy #nonprofit #midcoastmaine #liberationaffirming #musictherapy #musicpsychotherapy #musicpsychology #traumainformed #counseling #chronicillness #chronicpain #mentalhealth

✨ PART 1 of 2 ✨ Policy and Communications Intern, Aly Larson, discusses one of Our Children Oregon’s Legislative wins in mental health, HB 2307; otherwise known as the Prohibition of Conversion Therapy use on Minors. HB 2307 was a Children’s Agenda priority that successfully passed in 2015 that prohibits licensed professional mental health providers from using discredited “conversion therapy” on minors for the purpose of attempting to change their sexual orientation or gender identity. This ban was desperately needed because of the proven harmful effects that conversion therapy inflicts upon LGBTQ+ individuals, especially LGBTQ+ youth. Because of the collective advocacy efforts of Our Children Oregon, Children’s Agenda partners and community members, HB 2307 was passed to protect LGBTQ+ youth from the harmful effects of conversion therapy. If you are interested in supporting Our Children Oregon’s efforts to activate legislative change for Oregon’s youth, please consider making a donation to our “15 by 30” Campaign. Our Campaign aims to make Oregon a top 15 state for child-wellbeing by 2030, and all funds raised will support OCO's efforts to provide essential outreach, advocate for policy change, and invest in programs that uplift youth. Reasons We Love Working With Progressive Nonprofits #1 Because they are doing the work. When the world is on fire (figuratively and literally) and so many people are running around in circles, it’s the people working at progressive nonprofits who are doing the work to save it. We’ve met so many people through our work with nonprofits who are dedicated to issues like voting rights, LGBTQ+ rights, reproductive freedom, climate change, disability advocacy, and so much more. Honestly helps us sleep at night. #nonprofits #progressivenonprofits #progressivework #progressiveideals [ALT Text: The top half of the image is a photograph of a protest with a dark red overlay. ❤️🩹 Two days ago, Thailand became the first Southeast Asian nation to legalize same-sex marriage. Unfortunately, we are not there yet in Singapore. So today, we bring the focus back home to Singapore, where the mental health challenges and risk factors faced by the LGBTQ+ community are just as present and urgent to address. 🌈 The Safe Space Foundation (TSSF) empowers and supports the LGBTQ+ community by providing resources and key support for their mental well-being. We have also conducted a survey and interviews with members of the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies, including 5 Safe Space therapists. With the help of both respondents and Safe Space therapists, we have compiled a white paper identifying potential factors influencing the mental health of the LGBTQIA+ community. You may access the white paper here: https://lnkd.in/gkErfvnS #PrideMonth #MentalHealthMatters #LGBTQSupport #LoveIsLove #CelebrateDiversity #SelfCare #YouAreNotAlone #DonateNow #Fundraiser #VolunteerOpportunity #VolunteerSG #CommunityMatters #MakeADifference #ASafeSpaceForAll #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealthSG #TheSafeSpaceFoundation

What do you wish YOU were taught on your journey to either be able to talk about your work with scientists or talk about your science to communities? One of the ways we can create change is to make sure the upcoming generation of scientists knows how to talk about their research to communities and community based organizations. #SciencePolicy #ScienceCommunication
Being in the room with 25 years of #TobaccoControl history and #advocacy is such an amazing experience. One presenter said, “Policy changes the landscape and the way people think.” This is why I fight for institutional policy change, from laws to public health or health system policy. WE are changing the landscape. WE are changing the way people think. Often, #HealthJustice work is difficult. We sometimes do it in thankless situations. The work takes ALL of us. Thank you to all of the #LGBTQ and #HealthEquity advocates out there for showing up and adding to our impact everyday! Thank you #CDCOSH for bringing us together.
