MAKING INTENTIONAL MEMORIES - Feels like just yesterday when I was an associate with a new baby girl wondering how I was going to juggle my career and motherhood. Now Merrill is 21, going to college in Paris for the last 3 years, and an #adult. I still feel as though it was just yesterday and I’m figuring out that career thing. I spent my Mother’s Day and birthday with my best girl, helping with photo shoots for her final project and set up, eating (it is Paris), hugging each other, taking selfies, meeting the boyfriend and her friends, and hanging with her Parisian parents and my college classmate. As an attorney, there were many times when I missed school, birthdays, sports events, etc. because I was traveling or just simply working. Merrill knows me as “always working.” I would bring work to games, swim practice, and guitar. Over time, I learned we had to make memories to treasure. They didn’t have to be graduation, or baking the perfect cookies or cupcakes for class, or a play. Merrill and I made one when she competed in Tae Kwon Do nationals waiting a ridiculous period of time to have dinner in Austin, TX with a view and great TexMex, and when we learned (and got hooked on) fly fishing in New Mexico. We made them while sitting with my mom and playing with Snapchat by making faces and watching my mom’s wonderment - she was in assisted living. I still feel “guilt” about stopping to have time with family which is JUST PLAIN WRONG. I know it. But I still feel it. Find ways to stop and live as a lawyer. We have to enjoy the food, smell the air, have time for cheese and bread, listen to each other, share stories, and make memories of these things. Work is work - it is not memory. Yes, there are the victories and fun projects we remember, but that billable hour is not a memory. It is a metric. Finding the path to memories is unique to each of us. There’s no perfect but go seek and make a memory. #lawyermom #lawyerparent #legalprofession #HavingItAll #StayingCentered #Gratitude #IPlawMom #PatentMom #DrugPatentQueenMom #MomAndProfessional #HavingItAll #MakingMemories

In a quaint American town called Virginia, a diverse group converged to craft a large symbolic necklace, each bead telling a unique story of heritage. Through the shared act of creation, the participants found a newfound understanding of each other's cultures and backgrounds. Stories unfolded as beads of various origins intertwined, creating a rich narrative that transcended individual differences. The shared experience fostered empathy, building bridges of understanding among the participants. After completing necklace, the group discovered a powerful outcome – a community united by a better understanding of diverse backgrounds. Tolerance flourished, transforming the community into a more harmonious and accepting place. The necklace, once a collection of separate stories, now symbolised the collective strength that comes from embracing differences. As the symbolic necklace adorns the town library, it has became a beacon of hope and a reminder that in unity, there is resilience. The community, now knit together by shared experiences, embraced a brighter future where diversity was not only acknowledged but celebrated, demonstrating the profound impact of a simple act of creativity on fostering tolerance and acceptance. #O_O_O_O #positiveoutcomes #communitybuilding #togetherasone

Yesterday was National Love Your Pet day. According to this article, Americans are choosing their pet interaction over human interaction. I guess humans are annoying aren’t we? 😊 In 2003, the typical female pet owner spent much more time with humans than her cats and dogs. In 2023, two decades later, it has flipped! Pet interaction wins over human interaction. In a world in which human beings are becoming more polarized, maybe a solution is interacting more with one another - ‘choosing engagement over estrangement.’ How else will we become better at collaboration and solving complex problems? This seems to be an alarming trend or is it a pet thing that I simply cannot understand? #humaninteraction #chooseengagement #choices #petlove

Fifteen years ago I was winding up the last meetings of committees of council that I would chair or even be able to attend in the City of North Vancouver. We only had so many meetings, a main one monthly plus subcommittee meetings, and I knew that at the start: appointments were for two years, and there were term limits...you could only be reappointed a couple times and then you had to take a break. For those who haven't had similar experience, being appointed to this kind of position gives you staff, influence on zoning, funding, and the ability to allocate some other resources, and the chance to work with some cool people. I was 27 when this all started, and 33 when it was over. Most of the other appointees were in their 50s and 60s. I had been chair for 4 out of the 6 years, vice chair for the first and last: the final year I could have been elected chair again, but I gave the spot up to a person who really, really wanted it. Was her last year, too. The look on her face, I'll never forget it, as the election process at the beginning of the year was starting and the other members were ready to re-elect me. Crestfallen. And the expression of happiness (and eagle-success "swoop!") after I said, "I'll be vice chair this year, if you want it." We only have so many days doing the things we value. My civic volunteer experience is one of the highest I value, and I had a lot of impact on my home town with it. In one job interview during that period I remember a numnuts factory manager saying, "Why would you do that?" (volunteer) in all seriousness. Yeah, I didn't take the job even though he offered to me. Nowhere near a fit on values. So you...are you taking your roles seriously? Keeping in mind you have only so many "at bats" to make a difference? Nothing lasts forever. What could you do about a subject you love today?

A few days ago, I decided to bring my 7 and 3-year-old daughters to the WillDom office in Buenos Aires. I wanted them to understand where Daddy spends a significant part of his time and what the organization I work for is like. The experience was more than enlightening, and I want to share why I believe these experiences are crucial for the future of our companies and society. The highlight of the day wasn't the computers or the meetings but the valuable lessons we could draw about the impact we make on society. I explained to my little ones how each person at WillDom contributes to building something bigger than ourselves, something that improves people's lives. I couldn't help but notice the spark of curiosity in their eyes. However, what truly captured their attention was the tour of the facilities, and of course, the piano and guitar in the office! Kids are like that; they find magic in the most unexpected details. Those musical instruments became the bridge between my work world and their play, showing me that sometimes, the true essence of work life lies in those moments of simple joy. I would love to know if any other parent has had the experience of taking their children to the office. How did it go? What impact do you think it can have on the way children perceive work and its meaning in society? Let's share our stories and reflections on how we can build a future where our companies not only thrive but also inspire generations to come. #SocietalImpact #FamilyAtWork #BuildingBrightFutures

Happy February! As we reflect on this past year, it’s become even more important for us to show our appreciation for our loved ones and those that make our day brighter around our communities. Sharing our gratitude and LOVE for others shouldn’t just fall on a designated day, it should be every day! Why don’t we make our own rules this year and start a new trend to share our appreciation at home and at your favorite places where you do business. Make a point to appreciate someone every day - a special note or a few kind words is all that it takes! ❤ #grateful #monthoflove #happyclients #clientsfirst #clientappreciation #whoyouworkwithmatters #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #dreamteam #bestinclientsatisfaction #lovewhatwedo #seamlessexperience #successmindset #resultsmatter #supportourcommunity #lovewhereyoulive #seattlerealestate #sellingseattle #bestofseattle #movetoseattle #seattlewashington #pnwliving #pnwwonderland #eatlocal #shoplocal #warealestate #wahouses #realestate #compasswashington #thesirbuteam
