EnvoyGolf Insight Series: Nicolle Rantanen Reynolds, President of The Grange Golf Club. Mark Matehaere, EnvoyGolf “Hi Nicolle, congratulations to you and the Grange Golf Club on another very successful LIV tournament, recently staged. I wonder if you could talk us through the tournament from your perspective, that of the club, the members and also the players”. Nicolle Rantanen Reynolds, President, The Grange Golf Club, Adelaide. “Look, from our perspective we couldn’t have hoped for better. It was an outstanding, tournament. We had 94,000 people attend and a lot of young people that now believe golf is cool. You know it’s all about encouraging people to enjoy our great game and the LIV tournament certainly did that. We had 700 volunteers, we had 32% of the tickets purchased were women. 40% of those were purchased from interstate or overseas. So great for the South Australian economy, and realistically fantastic for golf, in this country, you know, as I said earlier, golf is now cool. People want to go. Those that went this year are, you know, everyone that I’ve spoken to they’ve already gone.. ‘When can I buy tickets for next year’? ‘And it’s not only me coming but I’m bringing more friends.’ So, you know, we had, an increased area for our member this year, which meant that, they were happier. They enjoyed the experience. They got to go to the Pro Am and see the players up close without a lot of the crowds. And the players are really cool. They’ll do selfies with people, you know, and you know, they love coming, the players. The best in the world love coming to Australia and we’re so privileged to have them here.”

Are you a Dualie? If you are, then you could be key to strengthening long-term participation in the game. In short, the National Golf Foundation define a dualie is a golfer who plays both on-course and off-course golf. Not content with a regular 18, they use a simulator, visit the range, or head down to a Top Golf or a Big Shots in between rounds. I’ve seen several reports recently about the consistent growth of off-course golf. And I’ve heard a fair bit of concern from the industry on whether it will weaken participation in the traditional game. I’ve always thought otherwise – so it’s great to see this report suggesting I was right 😊 When we see golfers taking lessons, or hitting the range we know that the number of rounds they play goes up – we’ve measured it. We know that when we can help engage golfers in activities around the club other than playing golf, the number of rounds they play goes up – we’ve measured it. So it has always followed in my head that when golfers hit balls for leisure, the number of rounds they play will go up. In addition, this report shows that they are more committed to traditional golf, their ability level is higher, they spend more money on equipment, and - the number of rounds they play goes up! I think there’s also a great argument that off course golf is a fantastic entry point for many people too. But that’s a post for another day 😊 #participation #dualie #golfbusiness https://lnkd.in/eepE24rS

So much great information in the latest article by National Golf Foundation. A “dualie” is defined as someone who engages in both on-course and off-course forms of golf and they are more passionate, they play more, they purchase more, and they have higher income levels. #winwinwinwin Dualies are younger than golfers who participate only in on-course golf #GrowTheGame https://lnkd.in/e6SKDb7g

🚨 The latest powerful off-course golf studies 🚨 We have been building #GolfLite and Blue Jeans Golf for more than 3 years now. When asked what is GolfLite, it's the bridge between Entertainment Golf (think Topgolf) and Traditional Golf (think 18 holes). 2023's National Golf Foundation study is the first time we are seeing the change in tides -- Traditional Golf (on-course-only) was actually DOWN -8% vs. 2022. I checked our investor presentations, and this was the first time since pre-COVID on-course was down. What about the bridge? It continued to GROW and ACCELERATE: +17% in participation on- & off-course +19% in participation off-course only 💪 We are growing from 4x Golf Ranch locations today to 8-10 by the end of 2024, so we hope to do our part in More People. More Golf. More Often 💪

New Post: ‘Golf Riding on Crest of a Wave’ - https://lnkd.in/gsrZzYiQ, Scotland: Golf participation can reach record levels in the coming years, according to Martin Slumbers, outgoing Chief Executive of The R&A. Troon, Scotland: Golf participation can reach record levels in the coming years, according to Martin Slumbers, outgoing Chief Executive of The R&A. Speaking at his final Open Championship press conference before standing down from the role, Slumbers said he was bullish for the sport’s future prospects. He said: “I’ve expressed concern in recent years about financial sustainability in the men’s professional game. If we take a wider perspective on the game, golf is in many ways riding on the crest of a wave. “The golf industry is benefitting from a surge in participation, and more and more people are experiencing golf in all its forms. More than 100 million people experience the game in one form or another around the world. “The latest participation figures for 2023 showed that in the countries we’re responsible for, there were 62.3 million people playing golf, which is a rise of 1.1 million on the previous year. “These are very encouraging figures, but we have to maintain this momentum. To do that, we must have a sustainable business model in the long term. “If you look at golf as a pyramid, however strong the pyramid is at the top, it can only be sustained in the long term if the pyramid is equally strong at the base. “We see that as our responsibility, and that is why we invest all of the proceeds from The Open back into the sport. We have to be careful to do that in such a way as to ensure that the recreational game is thriving and that the most talented players have a pathway to the top of the game so the professional game of tomorrow flourishes. We can’t do that if we neglect the base of the pyramid. “The reason I’m raising this concern is that I care deeply about getting more people into golf around the world and helping them to move through the levels of the sport if they have the talent and the motivation. “If we can achieve a sustainable business model and really engage in parts of the world where the growth opportunities are emerging, then there is a golden, perhaps once in a generation, opportunity to elevate our sport and make it a more popular participation sport than it has ever been. I’m convinced that that is achievable.”
