🌈 As June stands for Pride Month, #WDS take the opportunity to look at LGBT+ inclusion at work. While there are many companies in the digital industry that champion inclusion, 42% of LGBTQIA+ employee experience non-inclusive behaviours in their professional life. A recent report, Deloitte Global’s 2023 report on LGBT+ Inclusion in the Workplace, highlights there is still work to do in improving employee welfare regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. There are several key steps that can be followed to foster LGBT+ inclusion in the workplace: - Encourage allyship and ensure visible support networks for LGBT+ employees. Allies are key for creating an inclusive environment. - Promote and support LGBT+ employee resource groups. Such groups give to LGBT+ employees a place to connect, share experiences, and advocate for inclusion. - Ensure senior leaders openly support and advocate for LGBT+ inclusion. Leaders should set an example for the whole organization by supporting and advocating for inclusion. Tech and digital industries need to create a workplace where LGBT+ employees feel secure, supported and able to be their true self. 🌈 As we begin Pride month, we're reflecting on our progress towards LGBT+ inclusion in the workplace. Since the launch of our Diversity and Inclusion framework in 2022, we have introduced several key initiatives to improve the experiences of LGBT+ colleagues. Highlights include: ▪ Creating a global parental leave standard that covers same sex parents in 2022. The standard offers all new parent at Electrolux Group access to four weeks of paid parental leave.   ▪ Reviewing our policies and benchmarking our efforts against industry players, ensuring our policies are inclusive and up to date with best practices. ▪ Creating global learning resources for our employees to raise awareness about LGBT+ inclusion concepts in the workplace, such as an LGBT+ Inclusion toolkit and an Allyship and Microaggression toolkit. ▪ Signing external commitments such as Pride Connection in Chile and Forum LGBTI+ in Brazil.   ▪ Implementing safe and confidential mechanisms for LGBT+ employees to report incidents of discrimination and harassment via a helpline. ▪ Co-hosting the first-ever LGBT+ Nordic forum with Workplace Pride in 2023.    Our journey towards creating an inclusive and safe workplace for our LGBT+ colleagues is ongoing. Embracing these values cultivates a positive and respectful environment and drives innovation and growth. 🌟 The Importance of Inclusivity and Diversity Workplaces that embrace and celebrate diversity create spaces where everyone feels valued and respected, irrespective of their gender identity or sexual orientation. These environments foster a sense of belonging, significantly enhancing employee well-being and productivity. 💼✨ Ways to Be an Ally 1. Educate Yourself: Take the time to understand the challenges faced by the LGBT+ community. Educate yourself about proper pronouns, gender identities, and respectful language. 📚 2. Speak Up: Challenge homophobic or transphobic remarks and behaviours. Your voice matters, and speaking out against injustice can make a real difference. 🗣️ 3. Support LGBT+ Initiatives: Actively participate in and champion workplace LGBT+ initiatives and events. 🏳️🌈 4. Create Safe Spaces: Advocate for the creation of safe spaces where LGBT+ employees can express themselves freely and feel supported. 🏠❤️ 5. Policy Advocacy: Advocate for the implementation and enforcement of policies that protect LGBT+ rights within your organisation. 🏛️ Normalising Discussions Around Gender and Identity It's essential to foster open and respectful discussions about gender and identity to create an inclusive workplace. Encourage conversations in which all voices are heard and respected. This educates and nurtures an environment where employees feel comfortable being their true selves. 🗨️🤝 Let's celebrate this Pride Day by pledging to be active allies and by promoting inclusivity and diversity within our workplaces. In today's climate, where LGBTQ+ individuals face challenges from various societal quarters, providing a safe and supportive work environment can have profoundly positive impacts, sometimes even life-saving. 📄 So what’s the business case? Consider this - a recent study shows that 28% of Gen Z identify as LGBTQ+. To attract and retain top talent from this generation, embracing LGBTQ+ inclusivity isn't optional; it's essential. This means promoting practices like pronoun respect, gender-neutral facilities, and inclusive policies covering parental leave and healthcare, including transition-related care. 🏢 A safe and welcoming workplace and beyond. Simply creating a safe, welcoming workplace for all is a significant achievement. Ensuring that everyone feels safe and seen during their working hours, regardless of their identity.
