I once employed a young graduate who had spent her summer internship with us. During her final year, she had a class project on a team with two other students. They had to solve a challenge in their village using technology. The problem they solved is not germane to the story, but suffice to say, it went went. Infact, they received so much positive feedback that they submitted the project for a technology pitch competition being hosted by a local hub. They won! The exciting thing about winning was that they received an office at the local hub ... air-conditioned at that, as well as support and advice from the hub. The idea was that whatever they needed to build and scale the solution, they would have. But, after weeks and weeks, the solution they had fashioned was no where closer to built, let alone scaled. In asking her what happened, she said something interesting that I have never forgotten. She said that when they noticed the challenge in the village they were beyond eager and hungry to solve it. But now that they had gotten a comfortable air-conditioned office in the city-based hub .... the cool air blowing on their faces from the air-conditioner had made them even forget the problem they were attempting to solve in the first place. "Necessity is the mother of invention." It think about that time and time again particularly when it comes to frugal innovation. There is something about not having the problem yourself. Not experiencing the constraint yourself distances the very challenge you seek to solve. One's nuanced memory of the environment and the resources required, fades. So even though highly-constrained environment can be difficult locations for frugal innovation projects to operate, there is a direct effect between the experiential awareness of the environment in which the frugal innovation product will be used in, and the product-market fit. It is an important factor to consider when scoping your next frugal project.

Global Business Course student in France 🇫🇷 Passionate about the Fashion World ✨ Looking for a 6 month internship starting in January 2025!

Yesterday marked an exciting milestone in my journey as a Project Intern with the Projects Clinic Team at the University at Buffalo School of Management, The State University of New York. I had the privilege of connecting with a local visionary—an entrepreneur whose passion for intercultural education is nothing short of inspiring. In our first call, we discussed the challenge of bridging the gap between the invaluable skills and services her organization offers and the diverse needs of her clients across different sectors. This challenge resonates deeply with me, as it mirrors my passion for creating harmony between user needs and product/service offerings. Her vision is to enhance how cultural diversity enriches our communities and provide skills for navigating these differences with finesse. Our conversation was a poignant reminder that inclusivity and diversity aren’t just buzzwords—they’re the heartbeat of impactful work. It’s about crafting solutions that not only address but anticipate the varied needs of our users. A special thank you to Dean Ananth Iyer for initiating the Projects Clinic program and my project supervisors, Professor Michael Krupski and Professor Cassie Nguyen, CPA, for your invaluable guidance and support. Your expertise is shaping this experience into something truly transformative. A big shoutout to my fantastic teammate, Achyut Kulkarni—working with you is a joy! To my fellow Projects Clinic interns—What are your projects? Share your updates in the comments. Let’s celebrate our collective journey and the innovative solutions we’re crafting together. Here’s to the journey ahead—where each challenge is an opportunity to innovate, and every solution is a step towards a more inclusive and effective strategy. If you’re not too tired from reading this lengthy post, have some fun finding me in the group picture from the School of Management welcome weekend! It’s a crowded scene, so good luck! 😄 #ProductManagement #UserExperience #InterculturalEducation #Inclusivity #Innovation #ProjectsClinic #UniversityAtBuffalo #SchoolOfManagement #Internship #ProfessionalGrowth

🌱 How can a (young - am I still young?) #university Assistant Professor make a positive #impact? Here's an example from my experience: a) I integrated real #strategies for social innovation and social entrepreneurship, providing students with valuable insights into these critical areas. b) I invited Rethink Ireland as a #GuestSpeaker. They shared their strategies, challenges, and future opportunities with my students. Notably, they also presented an exciting internship opportunity. c) As a result, one of my #students applied for the internship and successfully secured the position. Takeaways: 1. 👨🏻🏫 Teach current and relevant strategies: Study and research what is pertinent to our society and bring that knowledge into the classroom. 2. 🔗 Connect with the world outside academia: Collaborate and invite guest speakers from industry experts to provide real-world opportunities. = win-win-win for academia, industry and students! It's rewarding to see the immediate positive impact on my students' careers and their contributions to social innovation!
🌟 Exciting Announcement! 🌟 I'm delighted to share that I have secured an internship as Social Impact Intern at Rethink Ireland! This internship is a perfect complement to my MSc in Management Consultancy, allowing me to apply and expand my project management skills in a dynamic and impactful environment. A heartfelt thank you to Mario Vottero and Katia Ribeiro-Pulvenis for the smooth onboarding process and for guiding me throughout. I am also immensely grateful to Professor Giuliano Sansone, whose mentorship and guidance in the CIE class have been instrumental in achieving this milestone. I'm eager to contribute to a team dedicated to creating positive social change and look forward to the experiences and growth this opportunity will bring. #Internship #ImpactInvesting #RethinkIreland #ManagementConsultancy #ProjectManagement #SocialChange #ProfessionalGrowth #Grateful #CareerDevelopment

Dear Network, I am excited to share that, as of the first of July, I have started an internship at Invest International. About My Project During my internship, I will focus on laying the groundwork for a clean mobility strategy by addressing the following questions: What are the major global developments in the clean mobility transition? What are the strengths of Dutch businesses in this field? And finally, how and who can we best support with financing their export and investments abroad (both in Europe and emerging markets) to create impact? Why Give Up My Summer Holiday? I see this summer internship as an important step in developing myself into a well-rounded engineer. My master's in Sustainable Energy Technology mainly focuses on the engineering side of the energy transition, unfortunately neglecting the economics behind it. In my view, understanding the business models and finance behind the technology is just as important. For this reason, I took up the challenge and sought (and found) an internship that could fill this gap. About Invest International Invest International's goal is to create impact on global challenges through Dutch solutions. They help businesses, governments, and investors finance and develop impactful projects that contribute to achieving the SDGs. Looking forward to the coming months, Maurits Looking for an internship? My first week at my summer internship: Attending my first boardroom meeting on the third day of my internship was an incredible learning experience. This is the kind of opportunity that working with a startup provides, which wouldn't have been possible if I were at a big MNC. The environment here allows us to explore different dimensions of innovation and critical thinking. Having a project without a set of instructions, without a cheat sheet or solutions roadmap, really gets our brains working and our minds rolling. It's amazing to see the impact a team of just 50 odd individuals can make towards sustainability and the environment, having a global presence and collaborating with institutes and organizations worldwide. Summarizing my first week interning at ICCW, I am just bewildered by how effectively and efficiently people here get solid work done. #StartupCulture #Innovation #Impact #InternshipExperience #Sustainability
