🥳 EOSDA is celebrating the first anniversary of #EOS_SAT-1! January 3rd marks exactly one year since the launch of our own first solely agro-focused satellite. The launch was a giant landmark for EOS Data Analytics and a crucial next step to a more sustainable future. 🛰️It’s hard to believe that this feisty little satellite has been circling the globe for 12 months now, but there’s proof! All this time, #EOSSAT-1 has been really busy, so let the numbers speak for themselves: In 2023, #EOSSAT-1 has: - Completed nearly 5,475 full orbits – that’s 15 passes a day! - Captured 6,000 satellite images in 39 countries. - Processed hectares 3,157,931,840 or 31,579,318.4 sq km of the Earth’s surface. - Achieved 1.546 m Panchromatic and 3m RGB resolution. Made a ton of successful images in Australia, USA and Brazil. Numbers may look impressive enough, but it’s more important what they represent. Global coverage of agricultural objects with a high revisit rate and high quality of observation aligns right with our vision and the UN Sustainable Development Goals – helping farmers (among others) to grow healthy crops in a way that’s safe for the environment. Ahead lies a whole new path through the woods. In 2024, #EOSDA is planning to integrate #EOS_SAT-1 satellite data into its online platforms and custom solutions. Stay tuned: https://bit.ly/41N3YjS 🌌 Warp two. Engage!
🥳 Start the celebration! EOS SAT-1 has completed over 5,475 orbits marking exactly ONE YEAR since its launch.

🆕 EOSDA Crop Monitoring: What’s new? This quarter, we bring you new updates in EOSDA Crop Monitoring. Cloud and shadow mask management on the Field Analytics page is now divided into two separate masks: Clouds and Cirrus clouds. We also integrated PlanetScope data into index trends and weather analytics. Speaking of indices, we added three new indices: the Normalized Difference Yellow Index (NDYI), the Normalized Rapeseed Flowering Index (NRFI), and the Normalized Difference Phenology Index (NDPI). We also added a new Vegetation Meta Index, which is a composition of MSAVI, NDRE, and NDVI in an RGB-like model 👀 You can now draw fields more accurately using the new Latest Image Layer, with the most up-to-date Sentinel-2 images with less than 5% cloud cover. Last but not least, there are new recommendations for optimal tillage and spraying times with a color-coding system for user convenience. ☄️ EOSDA’s scientist, Kateryna Sergieieva, was a mentor on the NASA Space Apps Challenge Dnipro 2024 on September 5th and 6th. Kateryna helped the teams with such issues as Earth remote sensing from space, ecological and social processes modeling, and project management. Kateryna says that the NASA Space Challenge was a fascinating event that provided talented young people an excellent opportunity to discover themselves and join the global scientific community 👩🏻🔬 On Saturday, our brilliant scientist talked to the team at the Noosphere Engineering School for several hours. Participants already had a vision of their end goals, project concepts, and sometimes even the product at the final stages of implementation. Kateryna supported them and reviewed their final work on Monday during the project defense. 247 participants united in 58 teams and created 48 projects this year, a Ukrainian record. EOSDA congratulates the winners and hopes that Kateryna Sergieieva will join the event next year as well 👏🏻 Learn more about the event here: https://bit.ly/4h5EHZI

🌊 This summer, the marine life in the #GulfofMexico suffered a breathtaking event. The New Jersey-sized “dead zone” that appears every year, in late summer 2024, grew in size substantially. This is one of the largest dead zones recorded in nearly 40 years. #EOSDA took a look at the event from space: https://bit.ly/4gM1jhz. While #EOSDALandViewer is typically used to assess vegetation on land, it can also help reveal what’s happening in the waters of the Gulf. The culprit is algae bloom, which depletes oxygen and causes hypoxia in the “dead zone” 🦠 Using NDVI and Index Stack vegetation indices, our team detected algae blooming in the water, almost as noticeable as the vegetation on land. The images from August 15th show the vegetation, green on #NDVI in natural colors and more contrast on #IndexStack one, spreading across the water. And just like that, “dead zones” like this one can be seen from space using remote sensing! 🔭

🌱 Have you noticed how crop yields can vary across a single field? It's not random — there's science behind it. Variable rate technology tailors input applications to each part of your field based on its specific needs to improve field productivity and boost yields. And EOSDA Crop Monitoring makes VRT implementation almost as simple (and way more productive) as the old known flat-rate application. 🔎 Our latest blog post explains how this approach works and how it can improve your farm's productivity.
