As we see the layoffs in the tech companies recently, a lot of CS students will start to rethink about whether they fit in this major or not or if this major actually guarantees a job for them after graduating or not. However, I would say time changes everything and efforts does not go to vain, just keep going and pursue you dream; if you really love what you are doing, you should never be moved by what is happening in the job market right now. This field is competitive? Yes, it is and it requires a lot of effort, but is it worth it? Definitely! Getting rejected for a specific position in a specific company, does not mean that you are a failure, just learn from these experiences and try to improve each time you apply for an internship or a full-time job. Just remember that if you’re really putting in the effort, your time will come to shine….

Attended the Tech Chicago Day 2024 with a little bit of Flair !!! This day the flagship event of Tech Chicago Week offered a lot in terms of Tech and its development. Personally, I loved the Tech Talent Zone, where I connected with some leading companies in Tech regarding their employment opportunities. Like many talent/career fairs, this too was filled many companies with their recruiters and representatives. Some people get overwhelmed by the sheer number of people present. I'm one of them. So I asked my friends Arup Chauhan & Swastik Patro for help. Here's a template of how I ended up making the most of the opportunity : 1. 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗦 your interest and enthusiasm in the domain where you want to work. 2. Ask about 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗝𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗦 which are being done by the company in that field. 3. Mention your own 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 in projects which require similar skills. 4. Get to know the 𝗛𝗜𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗗. The range of dates when openings are posted, so that you can actively look out for opportunities and be ready to apply. 5. Finally 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗖𝗧 ! So that in the future, you know whom to contact for more details regarding certain openings where you're a great fit. Kudos to the organizers for giving me such an amazing opportunity to connect !!! #TechChicagoDay #TechTalent #Networking #CareerOpportunities

Were you looking for a professional ice-breaker? My friend (who often saves the day for me academically) shared a great template! I am trying to learn better to express the "what-I-bring-to-the-table-with-my-skills" component of my conversations, it's always a good practice to help, share and learn together! Insights are welcomed :D

Last week Pequity was featured in The Wall Street Journal where we discussed a trend I’ve consistently seen post-pandemic. During COVID, there was a massive talent shortage, pushing companies to hire aggressively and fast-track employees into roles they weren’t always qualified for. We saw Directors with just 5 years of experience and “Seniors” with only a year or two under their belts. This hiring frenzy was driven by a spike in demand and too few candidates, especially with startups flush with funding, offering inflated titles and pay packages. Larger companies had no choice but to compete. Fast forward to today, and the market has flipped. Startups are dying or turning into "zombies," and now there’s a surplus of over-leveled talent with high pay expectations. Companies are releveling talent downwards, offering competitive salaries for experienced people, but not at pandemic-inflated rates. While pay spiked during COVID, we’re now seeing it stagnate. With compensation cycles in 2024, companies are adjusting pay bands, but there’s less upward pressure—marking an interesting intersection where pay remains steady, but expectations are still high. Happy to chat more on this evolving trend if you're curious! #compensation #pay #wallstreetjournal #comp #leveling #payequit #pandemic #trends #hr #humanresources #HRTech #learn #talent #hiring #compete #ai #COVID #pequity #comptech #compensationplanning #paybands #hrsoftware #software #startup #tech #technology #data
🚨 Pequity's Kaitlyn Knopp & Jason Greenberg are featured The Wall Street Journal's article "Tech Jobs Have Dried Up—and Aren’t Coming Back Soon" 🚨 The article highlights a significant shift in the tech job market, with postings for software development roles down more than 30% since February 2020, according to Indeed. Wage growth has also stagnated in 2024, as Pequity data reveals. Wages have increased by an average of just 0.95% compared to last year. Additionally, equity grants for entry-level positions at midcap software-as-a-service companies have declined by 55% on average since 2019. Our CEO, Kaitlyn, shared her insights: "The trend of ballooning salaries and advanced titles that don’t match experience has reversed. We see that the levels are getting reset—people are more appropriately matching their experience and scope." Jason echoed Kaitlyn's sentiment, stating, "Tech internships once paid salaries that would be equivalent to six figures a year and often led to full-time jobs. More recently, companies have scaled back the number of internships they offer and are posting fewer entry-level jobs. This is not 2012 anymore. It’s not the bull market for college graduates."
