Good artists copy; great artists steal. 🎨 For a while, I didn’t get this phrase. It sounded like it was justifying taking others’ work until I saw it from a different perspective. The phrase Good artists copy great artists steal is often misunderstood. It doesnt mean literally stealing someone elses work, but rather taking inspiration from it and making it your own in a unique way. Great artists don’t just replicate, they transform and add their own creative touch to what they've learned from others. So, it's about owning and reinterpreting ideas, rather than copying them exactly.

There are no 'right' definitions for the word 'Creative'. When abstract ideas are transformed into tangible expressions that make us feel something new, we call it a creative work of art. Then there are people who engage in creative work daily, such as art, music, writing, dance, and design. We know them as creative professionals. And then there is something else: a skill, a way of thinking to solve old problems with a new perspective, which we call being creative. The third one is the kind, all of us have exercised and experienced before, without realizing it. Whether it’s figuring out how to fix a broken device at home or navigating interpersonal relationships, all of us have faced challenges that require creative thinking. Yet we think of creativity as something magical, limited to a few. When it's really about how we interpret and engage with the world around us. ---- Creativity exists in all of us, How we choose to define it changes everything. #creativity #problemsolving #creativethinking

Hello friends, As some you may or may not know, I have been working for a new creative company, Medea, for a while….which has been very mysterious so far...well we are finally presenting our first project! (Which I am producing)💥 and am super excited about. Medea is a brand new creative production company aiming to shine a light on the production, circulation, digestion and impact of information so that people can be empowered to make factually informed choices. Illuminated Lies is a collaborative art work with the public which shares personal stories relating to disinformation and fake news and misinformed beliefs. It consists of series of public, free audio visual art installations and will be presented for the first time as a at Edinburgh Fringe 2024. Stories can be contributed from anyone, anywhere via a short 5-7 min audio recording. If you have a memory, anecdote or experience that illustrates how disinformation and fake news and misinformed beliefs have affected you, your family, community, society or the world then we would love to hear it. We believe that listening to one another's experiences heightens our understanding, empathy and helps us to make more informed decisions. You can contribute to the project via our website: www.illuminatedlies.com And please please share with anyone you think it might be of interest to - it's open to anyone! If you can also find the project on instagram. @illuminatedlies Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. xx Aoife #fakenews #opencall #disinformation #misinformation #edinbrughfringe #publicart

Narrative 4 is an incredible partner organization of ours! Join them next week for their free virtual workshop series, "Artist Network Story Exchange." 😍 The Story Exchange highlights our shared humanity. Through the exchange of personal narratives we see the world and ourselves with empathy. The N4 Artists Network Story Exchange is specifically designed for anyone who identifies as an artist. During our debrief, we’ll explore how the Story Exchange can inform our individual and collective practice as artists. The theme for Tuesday, May 28th is “Inspiration” — Who or what has inspired you as an artist? Where do you go for inspiration? Who has been inspired by your work? The theme for Thursday, May 30th is “Change” — What is the most significant change you’ve made in your life? What happened the last time you resisted change? When were you changed by a work of art? Join us to share your story! You’ll hear it told back to you in the first person and you’ll tell your partner’s story as if it were your own. https://lnkd.in/eHYg8sZC
