🍞 It's fair to say the iconic Australian spread is often the go-to for many cheeky April Fools’ Day pranks. 💥 However, some collaborations with Vegemite have clearly thrived, with household names such as Cadbury, Uncle Toby’s, Arnott’s, and SPC all launching successful vegemite-y products into market over recent years. The trick is to ensure the product aligns with the strengths of Vegemite (and vice versa). The salty sensation must positively contribute to the product, rather than simply relying on its novelty to drive trial. FMCG giant Marico Limited plans to double its food business by FY27, targeting a growth rate of 20-25% CAGR. To support this goal, the company has signed an MoU with the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) at World Food India 2024, focusing on skill development and technology sharing for its R&D operations. During the WFI Conclave, Vaibhav Bhanchawat, COO of India & Foods Business at Marico, highlighted the company’s recent successes in the food category and its alignment with diversification strategies, particularly through the Plix and True Elements portfolios. Marico also aims to expand its direct reach to over 1.5 million stores in three years via Project SETU, leveraging the distribution strength of its core brands. Bhanchawat noted that while products like Masala Oats already reach over 250,000 outlets, each category will have a tailored marketing approach. Marico Limited aims to double the size of its foods portfolio by FY27. Additionally, it anticipates that the domestic revenue share from both its foods and personal care segments will increase from approximately 20 percent to 25 percent within the same timeframe. The foods division witnessed a remarkable 24 percent year-on-year (YoY) growth in value, concluding the year at nearly four times its scale in FY20. The FMCG company also targets "continuous enhancements in profitability" as its various segments, such as Foods and Digital-First, expand and become increasingly significant. The company reported a 5 percent year-on-year (YoY) increase in its consolidated net profit for the March quarter, reaching INR 320 crore. Our first Manufacturing and Ops Excellence community event this financial year was a success! Big thanks to Jordy M., Tom Lahogue and the rest of the organising team. It was great to see a number of fantastic project shares, this time focusing on our Food and Beverage clients.   The cost-of-living crisis and softer economy are a huge challenge the Food & Beverage sector. Pricing to prop up profitability is less and less viable with inflation still well above pre-COVID levels and supermarkets under public scrutiny to reign in price increases. This means more pressure on Operations and Supply Chain leaders to find ways to cut costs while increasing productivity. This is where our Manufacturing and Ops Excellence practice really shines. We have by far the best capability in this space in ANZ, with 50+ consultants and hundreds of past engagements across dairy, meat, petfood, alcohol, bread, frozen pies, ready meals, confectionary and everything else in between. It's great to be part of a growing team and contribute not only to our clients' bottom line but also to slow down the cost-of-living crisis.

8.5 years seem a like a long time but in reality it’s flown by…. Back in 2016 nobody really cared about tofu in the UK….Lydia and I were lucky enough to come across an amazing “student” (if that’s the right word) of tofu…Ron Malarkey , he had learned how to make great tasting tofu and was selling it successfully to health shops….but wanted to retire… We had an idea to build a new brand that loved Tofoo (ooops tofu) and could take his fantastic product to a wider audience. The product has always been the key and we have been lucky to have had a great team, invested what we have earned and innovated to ensure we make our Tofoo the same way Ron did. I remember looking at the Nielsen data back in 2016 at how big brands like Quorn , Linda McCartney and Cauldron were…did we think we’d overtake some of them in scale to become No2 brand….did we think we would have the No1 sku in meat free….probably not. What we did think was if we stuck at it and got people to try our outstanding product (check out the Ocado reviews for what consumers think) that they would love it….thats still our mantra today….one consumer at a time, generate word of mouth, invest and grow…. Our goal remains the same “Tofoo for all”…in a world that needs diverse and natural protein sources…Tofoo is increasingly that answer…

Our team recently attended the Ampol Supplier Forum. This channel and key categories within it continue to be a major focus for our business and our brands. Ampol's strategic approach is continuing to win market share and consumers are spending. Their statistics prove they are a key destination for Australian and New Zealand consumers on-the-go.
