G4S Secure Solutions UK are proud to announce the launch of the "1 in 100" initiative in collaboration with ‘Play it Green’. For every 100 miles of unavoidable travel using fossil fuels, a number of our key accounts within our property management team will plant one tree—supporting communities and ecosystems in Senegal, Kenya, and Canada. Every three trees planted include: 🍎 One Fruit Tree in Senegal – Enhancing food security and supporting local farmers. 🌱 One Mangrove in Kenya – Restoring coastal ecosystems and protecting marine life. 🌊 One Sea Kelp off the Sunshine Coast of Canada – Boosting marine biodiversity and acting as a carbon sink. We’re committed to creating positive social as well as environmental impacts. As well as the societal benefits of this scheme, 10% of the cost of every tree planted is donated back to our chosen charity, the World Wildlife Fund. Yesterday was #EarthDay and this year’s theme was “Planet vs Plastics”. At Tokoro, we too pick an annual theme that we support as part of being a member of 1% for the Planet – we haven’t announced this year’s theme yet but last year we chose #Water. On the topic of “Planet vs Plastics”, one of the three charities we chose to support last year was Ocean Generation – a charity who take an educational approach to tackling the issues that #plastics cause to our oceans (check out their film “A Plastic Ocean”). Earth Day is a gentle reminder that we’re not only an investor in the built environment but the environment as a whole – something that is taking increasing importance in our underwriting, the graph below from Copernicus ECMWF Climate Change Service illustrates how important this is becoming…

The awesome people at BOSF (Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation) shared some tips on how we can help orangutans: 1. Save energy – Turn off lights and conserve water. 2.Practice the 6Rs – Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Repair. 3.Learn about orangutans – Understand why protecting them is so important. 4.Mind your carbon footprint – Walk more, drive less, and plant trees. 5.Choose ethical destinations – Avoid zoos with performing orangutans or places offering photos with them. 6.Consume sustainably – Check if your food, wood, and paper are from sustainable sources. 7.Support BOSF – Donate, adopt an orangutan, or buy their merchandise. 8.Share awareness – Tell your friends and family what you’ve learned today. Our Sustainable Forest and Land Management Project 🌳💚 The combination of small landholdings and extremely high population growth leads to a vicious circle of increased pressure on forests (for fuel and timber) and over-use and over-expansion of agricultural land. The result is land degradation, poor soil fertility and less biodiversity, reducing food security, exacerbating poverty and reducing the ability of these communities to respond to climate change. This 2 year project which was funded by the European Union capitalised on SUNARMA’s expertise in participatory forest management and applied it to a new region. Today is #InternationalForestDay a global initiative by the United Nations to stress the importance of these ecosystems in the fight against climate change. 🌳 At MATERI’ACT we know that warning people of forests degradation is a key element to protect them from deforestation. And so, we take this opportunity to highlight the work of #Refauresta a project led by FORVIA Interiors North American team. But what is #Refauresta? -         Planting trees in Mexico 🌱 -         Contributing to local biodiversity.🐾 -         More than 25.000 tress planted. 🌴 However, the portrayal of #Refauresta today is anything but innocent 😌 ; they rely on our support! 🙌 Their next target is to plant 2,000 trees in a natural reserve close to Puebla.
