James 2:17 emphasizes the importance of active faith: “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Engaging in service opportunities, such as feeding the homeless, supporting local shelters, or participating in mission trips, brings this principle to life. It allows Christians to practice their faith in concrete, meaningful ways. https://gofund.me/cdbfad7c

At Ram Jack of Texas, we are supporting our communities by giving back to those who have served our country. Recently, we had the privilege of repairing the home foundation of a local veteran, ensuring he has a safe and stable home. Today is the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, a day when we honour all of the Survivors and the children who did not make it back home. Many of those children who were ripped away from their homes and families are still struggling today. Many are experiencing poverty and homelessness. Today is an important day to recognize the ongoing impacts of colonialism and the harms that it has inflicted upon our families and communities. Providing access to safe and culturally appropriate housing is essential in repairing the harms of colonialism and ensuring that children remain at home in their communities. While today is an important day to acknowledge and commemorate, we recognize that our work towards reconciliation is not simply a one day event, but instead, work that we must continually engage in to ensure that we create a better future for our children and grandchildren.

Did you know that NLC launched the Municipalities Reimagining Community Safety (MRCS) initiative in 2022? With reducing crime being a political priority for many Americans, the MRCS initiative was created to invest in local action to reduce and prevent violence while advancing new visions for safety in communities. One of these visions includes Group Violence Intervention (GVI), an impactful strategy to reimagine public safety. So what does GVI look like? Read our new post — and attend our open meeting on Aug. 22 — to learn more. https://bit.ly/3Aq3I0I

Cost of living in Canada is beyond manageable. Taxing people to death is going to lead to more of this. The cost of rent in this country is absolutely insane. Imagine what it must be like to not be able to house your family in the dead of a Canadian winter. I understand why they're removing the shelters, but a better place to start would be reducing the cost of "SURVIVAL", not living, in Canada. Literally being "taxed" to death in this country. This week, old man winter returns from his vacation, and he is taking his job seriously, I wish our government would do the same. More people are being forced to live on the streets because of mortgage rates moving beyond their ability to pay, who do you think this benefits? The rich people able to buy those "bank owned" houses and charge outlandish rents on. The problem couldn't be more clear. STOP the cost of survival "hockey stick", unlike the other one, this hockey stick is real.

I’m saddened to hear of the discovery of a deceased person at an encampment this weekend. This highlights the need for more specialized shelters in Edmonton. That’s why our government is working hard with our community partners, including First Nations, to ensure shelter spaces continue to be available. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gByVauH7
