Financial Wingwoman for Female Founders • Calm, Clarity & Confidence about your Business Finances • Founder of Beaver & Bee Chartered Accountants •
There's a hidden gem in my business 💎 As founders, our spouses always become our cheerleaders, therapists and problem solvers when we embark on our entrepreneurial journey. What you may not know is my husband Akit Patel is also an experienced Chartered Accountant (we met on our grad scheme). So when I founded my practice Beaver & Bee Chartered Accountants it was a complete no brainer to have him on board as a director. He dedicates at least 6-10 hours a week alongside his full time demanding role in financial services to: 💎Give a second opinion on judgemental or tricky areas 💎Take some operational areas off my plate 💎Brainstorm strategy and help to troubleshoot 💎Provide hands-on resource when needed Clients may not know Akit is there but he is an unsung hero in my business. 🤍 🎈I wanted to give him a shout out today as it's his birthday. We're closing up shop for the day and enjoying some time out together. ------------------------------------------------------ 💬 Do you work with your spouse? Are they an unofficial co-founder in your business? I'd love to know! #femalefounders #husbandandwifeteam #happybirthday #accountants #teamworkmakesthedreamwork

I meet people on planes and trains that sometimes enrich my life. I sat next to the 90-something Washington SyCyp, founder of the largest accounting firm in the Philipines, and we had a lovely conversation over a long flight. He gave me his card and suggested we have lunch next time he was in New York, but he died aboard another plane just a year later at the age of 96. He was a happy, wise, and intelligent man who won, among many other honors, the 1992 Ramon Magsaysay Award for International Understanding. His biography, written for that award presentation, concludes, "This is a legacy of which he is proud. But if, by chance, he had been born into an economically advanced society ("where you can think of doing something that is good for you alone"), SyCip says he might have liked to develop a different sort of company—one in which he was owner and director and in which someone else did the auditing work." In terms of wealth and income, that would have been much better than running a large organization of professionals. "But then," he adds, "I would never have had the satisfaction of developing so many people." Advantages can be curses, and disadvantages can be blessings... If I am ever a 90-something, I hope to be as wise and as alive as Wash was. #relationships #elders #wisdom #truesuccess #flying https://lnkd.in/e3gjJPRg

💪 Strength in Hard Times: Our Journey Through a Tough Year 💪 Hey there, fellow business warriors! Mark from Flat Top Accounting Solutions here. Let's talk about something we all face but don't always like to admit - those really tough times in business. You know what? We've been there too. Last year was a real doozy for us. The kind of year that makes you question everything. But here's the thing - it's in those moments when you're pushed to your limits that you discover what you're truly made of. We had to dig deep, like really deep. There were late nights, tough decisions, and moments where giving up seemed tempting. But you know what? We didn't. We stuck it out, and guess what? We came out on the other side stronger than ever. It's funny how challenges have a way of bringing people together. Our team? We're tighter than ever now. We learned to lean on each other, to trust in our collective strength. So, if you're going through a rough patch right now, hang in there. You're probably stronger than you think. And remember, we're here if you need a hand or just someone to talk to. We've been there, and we've got your back. What's your story of overcoming tough times in business? Drop a comment below - let's inspire each other! #BusinessResilience #OvercomingChallenges #StrongerTogether #flattopaccountingsolutions

Why the heck is there a Bo Jackson GIF in this post? Well.... this morning, I had the great fortune of taking part in a Virtual CFO Roundtable between CPAs in Missouri and across Canada, a cool collaboration between Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) and he Missouri Society of CPAs to build community and share lessons and insights across borders. Admittedly, when I was invited, my knowledge of Missouri was pretty limited to baseball trivia (including the legendary Bo Jackson “Wall” catch). Let me tell you team, I was blown away by the conversation. In a few hours together, CFOs from across industries covered topics ranging from AI risk to automation, natural assets to ESG, and the CPA talent pipeline, getting into some fantastic actionable insights. On the recruiting front, the accounting profession has long been trying to shake it’s “marketing/ image problem”. Volvos, pocket protectors, long hours, an excel-lent career for an introvert, or maybe even Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff in "The Accountant". You know what I'm talking about. Anyone who got to be a fly on the wall to this conversation would surely beg to differ. There has never been a more interesting time to be in this profession, from being on the front lines of providing trust in data amid a wave of disinformation to helping set key legislation and rules that will shape the future of climate, there are so many pathways available through the CPA route. Big gratitude to Adina N. and Andrew Grow, CAE for pulling together a meet up filled with purpose, laughs, insights and community. Bo knows baseball. And MO knows accounting.

Clear to anyone with half a wit. All of the governance problems and Board of Directors failings, of oversight, fairness, ethics and strategic leadership at the Post Office are incontrovertibly connected to the #PostOfficeScandal and #Horizon. Despite what any protestations the Post Office may proffer to the contrary (indicative). Its difficult to imagine a more epic and catastrophic failure of corporate governance, probity and fitness for office, compliance as has been emulated in this Post Office travesty against Post Masters in the #HorizonScandal (At a hard push perhaps #Enron but no-one died, that I'm aware of). And as mooted in the article, who of any stature or prominence would want to join the leadership of such a callously unethical and thoroughly rotten corporate structure? And, unfortunately (given the Government's role as a key stakeholer in the scandal), its highly doubtful that Whitehall would have what it will take, or that it's proposal is anywhere near suitable. https://lnkd.in/e4rkHUw9
I was going to take a day off from the #postofficescandal today but this is key breaking news and more evidence of the crumbling edifice that was once our trusty national institution. Chairman Henry Staunton is out, in a spat over who replaces outgoing non-exective director Ben Tidswell, and it looks like folk are not exactly queuing up for the role. Who can blame them? It will take a brave person indeed to go in there and take an active role in trying to sort out the mess and to get cracking with compensating the poor sub-postmasters. Any candidates you can think of Nick Gould? #poisonedchalice
