How are utilities making the most of the potential short- and long-term advantages of artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI? And what are the challenges that widespread adoption of AI may create in the energy industry? The “Department of Energy AI Act,” introduced by Senators Joe Manchin (I-W.Va.) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) aims to advance U.S. leadership in AI, with an emphasis on energy and environmental applications. Specifically, the bill seeks to use AI to improve the federal permitting process for energy and mineral-related projects.
