September is Addiction Awareness Month, and with much joy, the staff of the Epworth Family Care Center recently celebrated Janie, a mom of two teenagers who successfully completed our six-month residential program that helps single moms learn how to thrive in recovery from substance use disorder. Moms live at our home-like facility while they receive intensive counseling and complete classes in parenting, job training, financial management, and learn how to live successfully without the illusion of escape that drugs or alcohol once provided. Janie cried tears of gratitude throughout the graduation party, which was attended by staff and other residents of the Family Care Center and their children. She said her children were ecstatic at the changes she had made. Janie’s S.C. Department of Social Services Caseworker attended the celebration and said she was thrilled at the difference the Family Care Center program had made in Janie’s life. Janie, we wish you the very best, and remember, we are always here for you. https://lnkd.in/eZX2MNBJ

Why You, The Family, Hold the Key to Your Loved One’s Agreement to Begin Their Journey to Life Beyond Addiction
Beyond Al Anon’s Message to Families Essentially, Al Anon’s message is “detach with love”. . . kind of like, it’s black and white - ‘just do this’ - I’ve seen that more nuancing is needed AND helpful. With the right container of safety, coaching and mindset, I’ve seen that families CAN initiate new conversations about a new perspective of recovery, and encourage their loved one to consider accepting help and support to begin a sober life. https://lnkd.in/dsGc3Xq Introducing the Family Addiction Engagement Training (FAET) - a “Families First” model with 4 principles: Sequenced family addiction education early Incremental family change Incremental offers for new conversations Living Beyond Addiction Families changing first does NOT mean they are the one’s with the problem, it means their brain is working better and they can change easier than the individual still using drugs or alcohol. No family change means individual change is less likely. Two webinars later this month: One for families with an addicted loved one, and another for professionals to learn and use the “Families First” model. https://lnkd.in/dsGc3Xq Thank you for passing this info along!
