📢 Today, we are pleased to announce that Fibre Connect Council MENA and FTTH Council Europe have successfully signed an agreement to promote collaboration and synergy between the two regional Councils.  The agreement, inked on the occasion of the FTTH Conference 2024 in Berlin, recognises both organisations' common goals and efforts in favour of fibre rollout and adoption in their respective regions. The agreement intends to speed the deployment and use of #fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks throughout the #MENA area and beyond. By combining their resources, experience, and #networks, both organisations hope to foster innovation, promote best practices, and address common difficulties in #FTTH infrastructure development and operation. For Members of the FTTH Council Europe, this also offers new chances of networking and exchange of knowledge with people and organisations in the MENA region and vice versa. We talked today about costs... Costs are rising on the whole value chain of FTTH – equipment, deployment, operations – with a high impact, affecting the business model itself and about Germany... the European country with the most work to be done in terms of homes left to pass and households without a subscription.  There are many reasons behind this numbers, accelerating FTTH deployments requires a combination of technology, planning, efficient processes, and collaboration and also, costs, how these costs are impacting the German ambition to reach the targets of the European Digital Agenda is something yet to discover. Last week I had the chance to speak at Network X in a panel regarding the latest developments on the EU telco regulatory framework. In this occasion, I have remarked the importance of sustaining take-up of FTTH through a clear switch-off policy. This is necessary to ensure the sustainability of the long-term investments needed to achieve the EU Digital Decade targets. However, the most interesting part was connecting with investors and operators all across the world. These discussions confirmed that infrastructure projects are a peculiar art. Finding the right recipe between investments, customers and regulatory environment is very complex and it easy to feel frustrated because you will only see the result after several years. For this reasons, it is important to always remind that infrastructure projects are a key enabler for competitiveness and for progress.
