BRIDGING THE SKILLS SHORTAGE IN CONSTRUCTION: Chris Haughey, Founder and Managing Director, McCoy Contractors : The construction sector’s ever-widening skills shortage is well documented and is a key constraint to a UK industry that provides the country with the homes, buildings and infrastructure that we desperately need. With construction output continuing to grow, how can the construction industry put in place measures that might put an end to the skills’ crisis? According to the latest Construction Skills Network (CSN) report, around 251,000 new construction workers are needed by 2028 to fill the demand. The reasons for the skills shortage are varied but one of the main causes is the ageing workforce downing tools and retiring from the industry and not being replaced by a new younger generation. This is down to a recruitment and image problem with many young people not seeing the construction sector as an attractive and viable option. https://lnkd.in/ekv4H7uA #skillsshortage #news #PR #magazine #advertising #b2b #bannerads #magazine #newsletter #emailcampaigns #construction #build #design #architects

Labour shortage is killing construction businesses Here's what construction companies can do right now: Build strong partnerships with trade schools and vocational programs. ↳ This creates a direct pipeline of skilled workers and helps companies secure talent early. Implement modern HR practices and competitive benefits. ↳ Better wages, health insurance, and career advancement opportunities attract and retain workers. Create apprenticeship programs within the company. ↳ Training new workers alongside experienced professionals ensures skills transfer and builds loyalty. Invest in technology and automation where possible. ↳ This reduces the number of workers needed for certain tasks while increasing efficiency. Focus on worker safety and well-being. ↳ A safe workplace with proper equipment and protocols keeps employees healthy and on the job. Develop a positive company culture. ↳ Construction workers stay longer at companies where they feel valued and respected. Remember this: The companies that will succeed are those that prioritise their workforce development. Don't chase quick fixes or temporary solutions. Build a sustainable workforce strategy that puts people first - that's what makes the difference.
