World Environment Day is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. It aims to drive ambition towards improving land conditions globally: https://lnkd.in/gUEwre3 In recognition of today and as part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we share one of our asset's biodiversity action plans, on M25 water monitoring with ConnectPlus. In response to the National Highways biodiversity plan, M25 has undertaken pollinator enhancement projects at two sites. This includes re-seeding 800m2 of grassland with a wildflower mix containing a Kidney Vetch plant which is eaten by the Small Blue Butterfly, a near threated species in the UK. It also focused on a second site as a habitat for the Striped Lychnis Moth, identified as being a most threatened species and requires conservation action under the UK Biodiversity Action Plan. Contact us to find out more. Small steps can create big results. * Every $1 invested in ecosystem restoration is estimated to result in up to $30 of ecosystem services. * Strategically restoring 15% of converted land could avoid 60% of expected species extinctions. * Ecosystem conservation has important climate benefits, including GHG emissions absorption and natural resilience to climate events. #generationrestoration #worldenvironmentday #infrastructuretolife Pictured: M25 Biodiversity site

🌍 Celebrate International Biodiversity Day! 🌍 Greenstone champions to "Be Part of the Plan”, a powerful call to action for all of us to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by supporting the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, also known as The Biodiversity Plan through the United Nations. Janice Christian at Greenstone Engineering Ltd. is our biology expert and shared this with us: "We, who live in Northern Ontario, value our water, mountains, forests, wetlands, and other areas for their beauty and the many experiences they provide. For me, one of the most important is the wide variety of native plants and animal species I see. Even in Northern Ontario, however, many species are at risk including many songbird species, Lake Sturgeon, the Monarch Butterfly, several bumblebee species, Caribou, Eastern Wolf, and seven of Ontario’s eight bat species. Some of the threats are habitat loss, invasive species, population growth, pollution, and climate change. It is difficult to know what we as individuals living in Northern Ontario can do. One idea for this spring is to plant a pollinator garden with native flowing plant species." Keep an eye out for posts about Greenstone's efforts for environmental stewardship and conservation! #BiodiversityDay #BePartOfThePlan #Biodiversity #Conservation #Sustainability #COP16 #GlobalBiodiversityFramework #Environment #NairobiMeetings #CelebrateNature #ProtectOurPlanet

Red pandas, often overshadowed by larger species, are a vital part of the Eastern Himalayan forests. Their protection is not just about saving a single species—it’s about preserving an entire habitat. As global biodiversity trends evolve, we're seeing an increased emphasis on sustainable ecosystem management and habitat restoration. Red pandas are an indicator species, meaning their survival signals the health of their environment. Protecting them ensures that we are also safeguarding countless other species that share their habitat. The future of biodiversity will require innovative conservation strategies, cross-sector collaboration, and a stronger commitment to climate resilience. Let’s use today to reinforce our efforts in mitigating biodiversity loss by supporting policies and initiatives that protect vulnerable species and promote sustainable practices. The conservation of the Red Panda is a reflection of our global responsibility to uphold biodiversity, not just for today, but for generations to come. #InternationalRedPandaDay #BiodiversityConservation #Sustainability #ClimateAction #HabitatRestoration #FutureOfBiodiversity

Nature-based Solutions play a crucial role in conserving biodiversity. Many species depend on specific habitats for their continued survival. The very fact that every species plays a pivotal role in ensuring ecological equilibrium is the main reason we should protect our ecosystems and further ensure their health. By ensuring a robust implementation of nature-based solutions re-assures hopes of attaining environmental sustainability. Preservation and conservation of habitats is not only key for ecosystem health but also enhanced quality of life for humans. Since the nature-based solutions approach also targets biodiversity hotspots, committing to protect and restore degraded habitats can have a very huge and positive impact to not only local but also global biodiversity conservation efforts. Without doubt, protection of our ecosystems will support resilient climate conditions both locally and globally. #Biodiversityconservation #Environmentalsustainability #Naturebasedsolutions Image: State of the Planet-Columbia University

Day 55 of 365 Today let's talk about the critical mission of biodiversity conservation. This endeavor is dedicated to protecting the vast array of life on our planet, including every species of plants, animals, and microorganisms, along with the ecosystems they call home. Biodiversity conservation is not merely about safeguarding nature's beauty; it's about preserving the intricate balance that sustains all life, including our own. The benefits of biodiversity extend far beyond its intrinsic value, underpinning ecosystem health, food security, medicinal resources, and climate stability. The importance of biodiversity lies in its role in maintaining the resilience of ecosystems, enabling them to withstand and recover from various disturbances, whether natural or human-made. It's the foundation upon which many sectors stand, from agriculture and pharmaceuticals to tourism, offering immense economic benefits and supporting countless livelihoods. However, the fabric of biodiversity is being torn apart at an unprecedented rate due to human activities. Habitat destruction, climate change, pollution, unsustainable resource exploitation, and the spread of invasive species pose significant threats to the delicate equilibrium of natural ecosystems. The loss of a single species can set off a chain reaction, potentially leading to the collapse of entire ecosystems and affecting human communities reliant on these natural systems. To counteract these threats, several strategies have been put in place. Protected areas, such as national parks and wildlife reserves, serve as sanctuaries for species and habitats. Promoting sustainable practices in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries helps preserve natural habitats and the services they provide. Mitigating climate change and restoring degraded ecosystems are also crucial for maintaining biodiversity. Furthermore, involving communities in conservation efforts and spreading awareness about biodiversity's importance are key to fostering a culture of stewardship and action. On a global scale, international cooperation, exemplified by agreements like the Convention on Biological Diversity, plays a vital role in addressing the challenges of biodiversity conservation. The journey toward effective biodiversity conservation demands a comprehensive approach that harmonizes human development with the imperative to preserve the natural world. With growing awareness of biodiversity's critical role, there's increasing momentum towards adopting strategies that ensure the health of our planet and the well-being of future generations. The path forward is clear: to secure a sustainable future, we must embrace the challenge of conserving biodiversity, recognizing it as a cornerstone of our survival and prosperity. Have a great day!😊 #55of365 #1%Better #2024 #BiodiversityConservation #SustainableFuture #EcosystemResilience #protectourplanet

Developer of Top Tasks research method. Author of World Wide Waste: How digital is killing the planet and what to do about it.
"The world's most vulnerable migratory species face an increasing risk of extinction. From turtle doves to green turtles, from the European eel to the African penguin, migratory species are the great explorers of the animal kingdom. They play an essential role in protecting the Earth's habitats by transferring nutrients, pollinating and maintaining woodlands. Decades of exploitation has left "species on the edge of extinction". Biodiversity is a bigger crisis than CO2. Many "solutions" to CO2 will make biodiversity worse. The Green Transition will devastate biodiversity. We must massively reduce energy consumption and material waste. These must be the first and primary goals if we don't want to devour our environment. It's not an energy production problem. It is an energy consumption problem. https://lnkd.in/ekZTtvEz
