Definitely catching my attention and interest! #heathcareworkforce #apprenticeships #publicprivatepartnerships “Between 2015 and 2022, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) distributed more than $1 billion in apprenticeship grants to state workforce agencies and intermediaries. According to the DOL, evidence supports the benefits of apprenticeships not only for employers but for workers and society as a whole. For employers, the return on investment includes reduced cost of hiring as well as employee loyalty. Workers who participate in apprenticeship programs often see higher earnings. Higher earnings and credential attainment (or skilled training) can be directly linked to a healthier society. Studies show that postsecondary attainment is a pathway to economic opportunity.” Barbara Lang Sue Roe Moises Pimentel Dennis Walto, MA Sally Holcomb Greg Taylor Dale Porter Ashley Dickey Gary Kartchner Mo Sheldon, FACHE Will Humble

Can apprenticeships mitigate nursing shortages? It's one solution. By 2033, North Carolina could face a shortage of roughly 17,500 nurses. In this case study, we explore apprenticeships as a path forward – highlighting lessons learned, key elements of Davidson-Davie Community College's program, and recommendations. For those looking to replicate, we've added a quick guide for launching that includes resources and sample documents. https://lnkd.in/eEMBDNEi

I am very rarely an advocate of online 'rants', particularly on LinkedIn, however I was unbelievably disappointed this morning to hear Patricia Marquis, misrepresent and devalue non-university routes into nursing during an interview on talkRADIO. Patricia spoke for 10 minutes with #MikeGraham about the crisis in nursing, and the associated challenges in training new talent. I quote a portion of Patricia's speech below: “There needs to be investment into students, an increase in the number of student nurses and funding for students to enable them to take up the offers of places at university to become nurses… …there are people who need support to gain the academic ability to register as a nurse, and there are routes to support them through nursing associate programmes, through apprenticeships etc but actually dumbing down the profession that delivers really significant safety critical care to patients every single day is not a good idea.” The only mention Patricia made to apprenticeships was as an option for those 'less academically able' than student nurses or 'not capable of studying at university'. She missed multiple opportunities to highlight or advocate for apprenticeships as powerful, effective routes into nursing or as a key part of the solution to the staffing and retention crisis she so eloquently described. This was not a regional training manager, or a university representative - this was the Director of RCN England - a strategic level thought leader representing the Nursing Profession across the UK. A ten minute slot on drivetime radio was a golden opportunity to advocate for the incredible opportunities that degree apprenticeships present for individuals, employers, and the wider NHS at a time when we so desperately need an innovative, solution focussed approach. It would seem unfortunately that Patricia either doesn't understand the options, or doesn't believe in them. Either way, I remain desperately disappointed in her approach. Let me say it again for those who STILL do not understand... - Apprenticeships are NOT for those less able! They are an sector focussed, powerful, and effective career and workforce development tool delivered by incredible industry professionals. - There is more than one way to gain a degree! - Health and Care apprentices are incredible - the holistic skillset needed to study full time alongside a developing career, maintain an often full private life, and care diligently for patients demonstrate a depth of character that few can match. The staffing crisis in the NHS will not be solved via a single solution or provision of training. We have got to start having grown up conversations about the complimentary routes into training and cease the narrative that universities can service the burden of training alone. They cannot. #apprenticeships #degreeapprenticeships #rcnengland #nursing #nursetraining #innovation #advocateforapprenticeships #talkradio #mikegraham #dobetter

Nurse Educator | Leader | Professional Development Specialist | An empowered nurse who strives to empower fellow nurses through continuing education and professional development.
Last Friday, I had the privilege of delivering the commencement speech for our Cohort 6 nurses graduating from the International Transition to Practice Program at Grit Academy. As an Internationally Educated Nurse (IEN) who has journeyed from the Philippines, through the Middle East, and now to the US, I shared three invaluable lessons I’ve learned along the way: 1️⃣Delays are not denials. In our journey, setbacks can feel overwhelming, but they often lead to growth and greater opportunities. The timing may not be what we planned, but it prepares us for something better. 2️⃣ Be persistent in pursuing your dreams, even in the face of the unknown. The road ahead may be unclear, but taking the next step with courage and commitment leads us closer to our goals. 3️⃣Trust the process. Believe that what is meant for you will come in its time. Patience and perseverance are key to navigating the uncertainties of our careers and lives. As we continue on our personal and professional journeys, we may not be able to control all the circumstances we face. But if we work hard and stay connected to our 'why,' no matter what life throws at us, we won’t just survive—we will thrive. #MondayMotivation #NursingJourney #InternationalNurse #NursingLeadership #GritAcademy #Persistence #TrustTheProcess #Resilience
